I didnt spel check this sorry
The Getaway
Score: 6/10
I would like to say first is that if you really want to see how games can get close to being a movie, The Getaway nails it. Its a "interactive movie", but before you hurl screaming "Night Trap", The Getaway focuses on little bit more on gameplay
Mark Hammond gets his son kidnaped and is forced to do a bunch of odd jobs for a crime boss to get him back. Let me start with the good things: The production quality to this game is insane. This has to be some of the best acting in a videogame. The graphics are top and indoor enviroments look like movie sets. Thats about it for good stuff
The problem is we have seen better running-shooting-driveing gameplay before. The term "gta clone" is used for games like this alot, some that shouldnt be called it (mafia) but The Getaway feels like a GTA-Wannabe. I dont know about the exact details of how it represents London, so I cant compliment on that. Mark has horriable controls when he moves, which is a sickness that seems to hurt alot of games that started development of Playstation 1.
Because there is no bars cluttering the screen you have no clue when your going to run out of ammo, you look at the cars blinkers to see where to go, Marks health is represented by the blood on his shirt. You would think that these things would be cool but they all backfire when playing.
While there are two players and two stories to play ("view") in this game, The Getaway is a great rental at least. Im not offended by swearing, but the game sounded incredably lame and stupid after the 10000th F-word. They say "fuck" more than SouthPark the movie. It gets to a point in which it becomes humoris. There were times that I actually began laughing because it was so overused.
RedFaction 2
Score: 8/10
Its better than the first, ALOT better.
The number one problem with the first game is simple: They had a great engine (geomod) which allowed you to destroy everything. It was never used right at all, and it was limited to use in only a couple of levels.
In RedFaction 2 you play as a nano-enginered demolitions solider...Yeah, the geomod engine is used alot better this time around...
The controls are perfect due to mouse and keyboard support (YEAH!) The graphics look great, and the variety in gameplay is awsome. Thats the great thing about RF2, IT NEVER GIVES YOU A BREAK. You will be shooting and blowing away everything from begining to end. There are awsome arcade style rail-shooter levels when your inside a hovercraft, controlling the turrets on a tank... And of course my favorite change of gameplay... Jumping into a bigass Mech while you assult an enemy base.
Fun shit.
Multiplayer is great too, if not a little bit changed from the last game in terms of gametypes. There also seems to be a lack of multiplayer play. Not cool.
The single player campain is a little short too
Winning Eleven 6 Final Evolution
Score: 8/10
THANK GOD FOR MY MOD-CHIP!
This soccor game from Japan (which has an awsome transulation patch) is by far, the most fucking addictive soccor game on the planet. IT KILLS FIFA. It makes Fifa look like frickn pee-wee soccor. The controls are tight, you simply have to see some of the animation to belive it. Its amazeing.
Some form of it is coming out in the U.S. soon, if you have a mod-chip go grab it from IRC.
Final Fantasy: Origins
Score: 10/10 duh
This is basically Squares attempt to grab more money from the psx without actually makeing a new game. The re-release of FF1 and FF2 is actually a little bit more than added cg-cutscences. The game is actually a port of the wonderswan version which makes everything look almost 16BIT! WOO-HOOO! TECHNOLOGY TO THE MAX BY'ATCH!
...
...but whats really cool is unlocking all the cool looking art pictures and stuff.
For gamers that remember the first Final Fantasy, or those who have played the NES rom (me) You will know that the game is a unforgiving-bitch.
You dont level up, your ass is grass. THANKFULLY square has added a nice new feature to the game...
EASY MODE
Now the game is actually somewhat beatable! YEAH!
FF2 is the first FF to have somewhat of a charicter based story, which is actually pretty good. Here you see the begining of Final Fantasy formulated charicters that will be repeated over and over in differnt forms for the next eight sequels. Not to mention spin-off games. Pretty sweet.
