Got it yesterday, played it until late at night. Graphics rock, story's a little contrived.
What do you guys think?

Haven't got it yet...want it lots!!!! Worth getting then? I've heard the reviews have been a bit, well, not as good as a lot of people would have liked them to be. Still worth buying then, is it?Katyjag, a young revolutionary...

i rented it, and my predictions were true. a whole lot of eye candy, very little on gameplay.
you can go ahead and buy it if you're set on getting it. i wouldn't recommend it, but you can go ahead if you want. i'm not stopping ya.
So there's my US$0.02 :-)

Same here. I also don't know what drugs the IGN guys are on, because there is NO WAY that "the realtime cutscenes look JUST like the pre-rendered ones". Give me a break, they look nice, but they're not THAT good.

You think it's worth 40 or shall I save my money for something better? It isn't even out in the UK yet, so I got a while to decide. Am kind of tempted, but if it's not worth it then I dunno, I don't want to go wasting the cash! Hey, btw, anyone know anything at all about when vaguely I could expect to get my hands on a copy of FFX. Okay, a little premature I know, but I'm just wondering.Katyjag, a young revolutionary...

Probably not worth buying. If you can rent it for a few days, you should have no time beating every part of it multiple times.

yup, I agree.
I just played the game today, I was so disappointed.

This game, is nothing but great graphics. There's only two things to do with this game: watching CG and taping the buttons.

Actually, I think I narrowed down the gameplay to this:
A) Watch FMV (mostly realtime, but some prerendered)
B) Fight
C) Save
Wash, rinse, repeat.

Disappointment, yeah, probably. But its still better than 98% of the crap out there. Face it, most games suck. In the year 2000, a little over 500 games were released for the PSX in the US, along with more than 2,500 games for the PC (no clue about N64 or DC). How many can you even NAME? 100? How many were actually GOOD? 20? How many were
GREAT? 0.
We expected more because it was Squaresoft. We expected more because it was Playstation 2. We just expected mre because damnit, we want more. Expectations can be the biggest disappointment of them all. Look at Star Wars. With all the hype surrounding Episode I, there's NOTHING Lucas could have POSSIBLY done to make things like it was 1977 again. Yeah, somethings could have been "better", and other things could have been "different". But who are we to judge? If we were given $150 million, could we make a "better" movie? Doubt it. Personally, I think he did a great job (much better than I expected) at accomplishing the movie that he wanted. But, even that is not enough to meet up with the great expectations that people have.
So, I'm just rambling because I'm tired, but you get the point.

On the bright side, you could have TRULY wasted your money on a PS2 game (*cough* Orphen *cough* *cough*).
