Although that's quite true about those first two systems, Chopmaster, the fact is that the Dreamcast was released more than a year before the PS2. At the time that it was relesed, most of the non-gamer public had no idea that the PS2 would be out soon. That means that the Dreamcast had about 14 months give or take to create a solid fan base among the mainstream, and as we can see now that didn't happen. And yes 2-D does live, but that still doesn't make it any system's savior. As I said in my last post in this thread, it all comes down to cold hard cash.

Sure, the Dreamcast had 14 months, and Sony had 14 months to take it down. The fact is many people knew about the PS2 before the Dreamcast was ever released, even the casual gamers. Many people waited paitiently for the PS2 in, including me and you Zellboy. If it's the mainstream they wanted to get to they sure did it somehow.(There were hardly any PS2 comercials)
I did forget to mention that Sega had a bad ad campain, hardly showing off the actual games in their TV ads.
True, CVS2 won't be the Savior of the PS2. At least not to you or to most gamers.

ahhh... havent been on for a while and look what happens! LoLz! i missed one of the best debates for a while..

ok ok.. so many things i want to say! to start off with: im a huge Tekken fan (and not just a mainstream casual gamer either) im pretty serious about it, and have been since T2.. and i must say, out of all the 'fighters' out there Tekken would be deffinately one of the most complex systems today.
Quote:
Finally, a fighting game with depth will grace the PS2. Yeah, thats right, TTT and DOA2 wish they had 1/16 of the depth that CvS2 have.
I'm still a fan of the 2Ds as well, but to see a 'master' of CvsSNK and a 'master' of T3/TTT... i think the tekken master is more skillful.. sorry, but the timing/practise/setting up is so exact in a 3D fighter. to be good enough to have mastered the game, u really need to have put in the time. i would have to think that Tekken has more depth (but im not saying ALL 3D fighters have this) bloody roar for example..
Drakkael! do u know how much a LAUGHED when i saw that?! omg.. funniness *mark wipes a tear from his eye*
Quote:
A modern 2-D fighter requires precise timing and accurate geomotry unlike the button mashing maddness of 3-D fighters.
hRMMz.. try playing a korean mishima master and see how much they 'button mash'.. just think of Tekken as a game with all the accurate geometry of ur fav 2D fighter, PLUS another dimension (yes, the third place)

To me, the best game is a game that keeps you coming back for more. MGS, and FFX are are going to be great games without a doubt, but they will be up on the shelf in about a month or so.
well, i have been coming back to tekken for 5 years now..

and im still learning new things about it.
587495 has some really good (unbiased) points.. i can respect that. theres no set rule that 2D or 3D is better than the other, its all just ur personal preferrence. stick with whichever u prefer and be happy.
/me runs off the go play TTT.. hehehehee

You seem to have many good points about 3-D fighters. You don't attack me like many registered users and I have to respect that, you kept cool through the entire thing.
Even if an experienced Tekken player can view the game as a well constructed game with a lot of depth, it just doesn't seem that way in the arcades. I see too many button mashing players beating players with some experience. That is yet to be seen in a modern 2-D fighter.
Sorry, but your going to have to pull a gun to my head or extract all my BASS if you want me to even think that Tekken has more depth than CVS2.
Mainstream audiances are attracted to 3-D fighting gameplay because there are so many moves that they press anything and think that thier experts,(belive me, i've witnessed it)that is yet to be seen in a modern 2-D fighter.
Don't get me wrong, I like Tekken, I think it's quite fun and definetily the King of 3-D fighters, but when I beat expirienced players with nothing but button mashing, I sense there is something very wrong.
Strange Fact: The world TTT champ is a Korean man
The last thing I would like to say is thank you. I was waiting for someone to make very good points and you very much accomplished it.
It's time to build up more BASS and play my 2-D fighters.

It's kind of hard to exactly tell which one of the two "masters", the 3D or the 2D, is more skilled. I mean, the 3D guy (or girl) has to be skilled with button presses, evasion, and throws (more so than a 2D "master"). The 2D master has to jump a whole lot more (definately need it for the evasion of projectiles), use more buttons (most 2D fighters have at least six buttons), and use the directional stick in more ways than a 3D master (at least in my opinion). Also, just off the top of my head, 2D fighting always seemed to me to be more flashy than 3D fighting, only because the games have all these "energy projectiles" and "super combos" and other stuff like that. But then again, I like Soul Calibur, and it doesn't have a flashy style, like a 2D fighter. It has a style, but in its own way. Anyway, keep on playin'!

hehhe.. npz Chopmaster ^_- i still REALLY wanna get SNK vs. Cap when it comes out!! hehehe..
the supers/combos in that are unreal (hrmz.. maybe thats what i like about tekken? the fact that its somewhat more 'real'?) but yeah, every now and again i need something flashy to have FUN on.. hehehe
just need to find a good blend of the 2 types of gameplays offerred in 2D and 3D games... OoO! Rival Schools: Project Justice was an awesome example of this! a 3D fighter that played like a 2D?! hehehe.. i was so addicted to that game! even tho i felt it wasnt as 'deep' (oh no, the 'D' word again) as Tekken, it was a real party game.
/me runs off to go and play Rival SchoolsMRk MRK n FnK Mz

Dude, you and I think alike! I love Project Justice! Sadly, apart from zellboy and me, we are the only fans of this amazing game...I spend hours playing it...I go to friends' houses and that's all I want to play...I'm sure they get sick of it, but to me that game is incredible awesome! Long live PJ!

YEAH!! Project Justice 0\/\/nZz!!!! I think it's way better than Rival Schools(RS is still a good game though)! The Team-ups are crazy now that you can use three people. My faves are Roy (SUPER DUPER SHORYUKEN!!), Tiffany, Zaki, and Momo. Kyosuke is cool too. He gonna be in CVS2(topic). Man I wish I had that game. *runs off to play Rival Schools cuz thats the only one he owns.

My favorites are Roy (as zellboy said, SUPER DUPER SHORYUKEN), Roberto (gotta love when he grabs the opponents in the air, slams them to the ground, then kicks them away!), Kurow (his slashes take people by surprise), Yurika (some of the coolest air combos), Zaki (gotta love a girl with chains!), Ran (she's Dan's sister, you gotta like her!), Gan (yeah, he's really cool!), Natsu (oh, such a long reach!), Tiffany (her kicks are diverse enough), Hayato (super powerful freak of nature), Vatsu (in my opinion the best clone in the game), and Akira (her sudden moves sometimes catch people off guard). *whew*...yeah, they're all my favorites.
