I just found this, and it seems too good to be true. Anyone who can walk through the technobabble and either verify or debunk this would be greatly appreciated.

K... I can half understand this, and agree that the PS2 is in many ways more powerful than the XBOX.
The TV thing is the clincher. The x-box is trying to design a console that can imitate a PC, but monitors are much more capable of showing detail... en masse pixels. Microsoft has a TV unit to be launched designed to be used alongside the x-box (I think? Pretty sure I saw this somewhere...) that is like a monitor, but the whole bloody point of a console is to hook it up to a TV... nobody wants to spend another 400 bucks damnit. Just use your PC.
The speed difference is not that much, we're talking about running ONE GAME or ONE DVD... you only need 300mhz.
The x-box is capable of beautiful graphics, but so is the PS2. When you divide the polygons around for things like water, fire, smoke, shadows and light... any special fx outside the controlled sprite, or whatever, the quality in graphics lessen and the speed slows. However, game developers know how to handle and balance this... and they do it really well.
Anyway... I don't think the power and capabilities of the two machines should be a sole reason in deciding which to get, or which to get first. It's the games....

Miso Soup
i skimmed through that huge forum post (didnt actually read much except for the repeated ps2 more powerful than xbox) but what i know is. the PS2 architecture is WAY different to the xbox which is practically a PC CPU architecture (which is my theory in which why they cbf putting a international lock on). anyhow, it is a fact that the PS2 outperforms high end pc's in specific areas (music, ai processing?), those i have no clue because i read an article like this a long while ago. So unless all these poeple are sent by sony to decieve us, i think what this guy says is true. and the guy writing the post IS very specific. a great read in spare time im sure... maybe.
let i assure you though. in great games most of the power of the CPU will not be taken up by churning out big chunky great graphics, but the kickass AI. AI takes a HUGE amount of cpu power. developers can usually find the best of both worlds though
