I don't believe the price of the console to be a problem. You only have to pay for the console once. The problem I see is that it is being relatively compared to competition. Unless you think $600 for a whole generation of gaming (about 5 years) is too much to spend, then you will have to wait for a price drop or go with 360/Wii. Most hardcore gamers are willing to put out much more than $600 more often than a new generation console is released to upgrade their PCs. Personally, I do the same to upgrade my PC about every 3 years. Yet, I still play more games on consoles (not to mention I find many more interesting games on console than PC). So I cannot see why I'd have a reason to complain over the PS3 price.
Although I still won't put out the money to buy PS3 at launch, I still don't think the Wii+360 is a more favourable purchase just because it might cost less than a PS3. My interest in buying a PS3 comes from the game line up (More games and more interesting games on PS3). I will most likely buy PS3 when some of the games I am interested in are out. Oh yeah, it also has free online play.
So far, Nintendo has given me little no reason to buy Wii. Biggest attracting factor to Wii so far is the virutal console. Meaning games that are not Wii games. And looking at how they performed this generation, I am not impressed. It seem like they screwed their biggest franchise. Starfox, F-Zero and Zelda were my favourite titles from Nintendo. Well I don't think I need to explain why both Starfox games sucked on gamecube if you ever played them. And Zelda wind waker just didn't live upto my expectation (well I guess I can blame Ocarina of Time for being too damn good for that). And now that Ninteod has created a Zelda they claim is much better than Ocarina of Time, they are releasing it at the end of the console's cycle (Launch of Wii). F-ZeroGX is the ONLY exclusive title on gamecube that I still play. As for Wii's contronller. I don't like the idea. I just don't see myself swinging my hands around the place and dancing to play my games. And I heard about nothing for support for the Wiipad or titles that are compatible with it (Will wiimote games be backwards compatible with wiipad? Will there be fighting games on Wii? Will there be scrolling shooters on Wii? If anyone knows, tell me). Therefore I conclude that Nintendo is no longer the way for me even if their console costs less.
As for Xbox360. Well there are only very few exclusive titles that I'd like to play. I see Halo3 and Gears of War as the prime reasons to buy a 360. However, only two games will cannot justify for me buying a new console. There are more games on dreamcast that I still want to buy than Xbox360. Also, I don't believe in pay to play online.
Now the real concern with PS3 are the rumors about the game price. If games are $80USD, then that is a major problem. A real problem, unlike the console price. I am not willing to put out almost $100CAD after taxes to play a game. $600USD video console I won't complain about. But when I have to pay so much for all the titles I want to buy, then I am turned off. I cannot be spending $80 per title for the next five years to buy games. If sony does this, I might reconsider getting a PS3 and not buy any new consoles unless prices on all games I want drop (half way through or near the end of its life cycle maybe?).

I know I don't pay attention to all the game releases or cross-platform releases as much as the rest of you, mainly because -- while I am a lover of games at heart -- I don't have the backing to satisfy that amount of attention.
But it seemed to me that over the last five years there were alot of very popular titles that were cross-platform released between the ps2, xbox, and pc, with Nintendo having the larger pool of exclusive titles. I think it is a safe assessment that FFXIII will be ps3-exclusive, which is why the price burns me so.
I also have to argue against using PC upgrading costs to justify the pricetag on the PS3. A PC is much more than just a toy or entertainment unit, its a workstation and communication tool.. it makes the world GO. A $600 upgrade to the average individual's PC is for more than just pleasure satisfaction. Divide it up; 1/3 for performance (cpu/ram), 1/3 for appearance (vid/sound), 1/3 for breadth (hd/cd/dvd). So if you were to eliminate game-playing on your PC, you'd still need to shell out 2/3 to upgrade needs for work-related tasks most likely.
I'm sure, too.. that SOMEBODY will manufacture a more classic controller for the wii, heh.
But speaking of controllers.. the ps3 one is sick in a good way.. imagine if that motion-sensitivity stuff controlled angle of view in a FPS? But of course, "dancing arm" type players.. you know, the type who yank the controller in a direction when playing driving games or something, will need to completely readjust their mode of play if its required for any game.

When I compared PC upgrades, I used gamers as the target example. They will put out the money with intentions of gaming. Of course computers can do a lot more (remember, consoles can also do a lot more than just play games now too). But if you take gaming out of the equation, the cost to upgrade a pc decreases dramtically. Not to mention the neccessary intervel for upgrade increases.
As for the PS3 motion sensitivity, I don't like it. Did you see it demonstrated in the Sony Press conf? Dylan Jobe looked like he was about to tumble trying to direct the aircraft in War Hawk. It was also commented by the penny arcade guys that the controller is not very responsive. I hope the motion sensing in the PS3 controller gets the least attention from developers (Or at least not any deep gameplay emphasis). Like I said, I don't like waving my hands around when I am playing games.

I highly highly highly doubt that there will be any game out there that will require it in absolute, but I think it would be a very neat feature as an enhancement. Like I mentioned about a FPS, if it controlled the y-axis, or if the sensitivity was minimal it could be the error ratio itself in a particular mode.
The controller is supposed to come both wireless and not, right? I'd bet the wireless one would be less responsive, hence perhaps the poor performance you saw, and that was reported by PA?
I also got the impression that waving your hands around was -not- a good thing when using the motion sensitivity, that you have to be precise in tilt and turn.. meaning to me anyway, that gamers who don't wave their arms around when playing would find it very easy, and those who do would find it a total bitch to use?

I not think being wireless would cause the lag. I think it was more the game. I am sure the devs rushed the motion sensing into the game for E3.
As for the wired controllers. I think having a wire built into the controller would make it very slightly more difficult to use depending on how much wire is hanging. Besides, wires are the past... does anyone actually intend on buying wired controls for the next gen? Limited length. Extra wieght. People tripping over wires pulling the console. TANGLES! (I hate tangled wires).

I don't doubt much of that has to do with the fact that he was on a stage. While the cameras may have been tuned onto each minute movement of his hands, many people were watching him demonstrate the DualShake at a distance of at least a couple dozen feet. If he were to control the ship with minor wrist movements, to the people in the back row, it would appear as if he was just standing there.
EDIT: I mainly use the wired controller on my 360.

It's from IGN's XBOX sister-site, but applies to Sony's machine as well (if not more so).
