I've got a question, guys... What do cards do, and what is money used for? There's no equipment to buy, right?

Reminds on how long I have played that game...Now I must DIG in the back of my mind to answer questions. I think you can teach Eden the "card-mod" ability that will allow you to change rare cards into certain items to upgrade your weapons or to get good battle items. As for the paychecks, answer all the tests and get to the top level early so you can stock up on everything.

either Brothers or Diablos can be taught the card mod ability too... Like Vid said: it's enables the player to changes cards into items...
Do the seed test in the menu to earn more money. There is no equipment like in previous Final Fantasies (i.e. armor) but you can buy weapon upgrades, potions and other stuff...
Furthermore the card game doesn't have a real purpose other then distraction.

Ok, just a few clarifications on what vidiot said. Cards are used to get items that you normally cannot get until way later in the game (like some of the stuff needed for Squall's ultimate weapon). The GF that learns the Card mod is Quetzalcotl, so you can pretty much have Card Mod from the beginning of the game. Spend a few hours earning AP in that beach in Balamb, and presto! You have Card, then Card Mod. However, it usually takes more than one card for the really good stuff, so spend a few hours (I only say hours cause that's how much time I spent there

) getting some good cards from the people in the Garden and Balamb. The money: remember that little SeeD test you took? Well, since you're a SeeD now you get paid in intervals, and you probably also know about the SeeD tests you can take to go up in the ranks. The main purpose of the money in this game is to buy items like Phoenix Downs and Potions that can be later refined into more powerful items. They sure help at the start of the game, when you don't know that many spells. Pretty much just stock up on stuff. Oh, yeah, and you also have to pay to have your weapon remodeled. Hope that helps.

IF you want Squall's ultimate weapon early in the game ,(but not fast) choose Brothers to learn CardMod ability and Ifrit to learn the Ammo-thing ability , kill Adamantoises to get adamantine when going to Galbadia Garden (Not in the Galbadia Garden , but the beach directly opposite the forest leading to Galbadia Garden.)
But before all that , you should accumulate 20 Elnoyle cards when in Balamb Garden (they are the easier opponents .It is advisable that you get Quistis' Card from the Trepe Groupies , then Zell's Card off Zell's Mum, and finally Seifer's Card off Headmaster Cid in the third level of the Balamb Garden, and then 'bully' the little boy running around with your uber cards ... and get the moogle card while at it . Defeat the Diablos-in-the-bottle for Diablos card.) With these power cards , the chances of losing will reduce to 24/35.(make sure you save game after every 5 games , as you are risking your precious cards...) You can get Elnoyle cards easier this way.(warning:collecting Elnoyle cards is VERY TEDIOUS !)If there is no Elnoyle , take the TriFace . If not , take the Cactuar . Other wise , take the Iron Giant .Otherwise , pick a favorite card .No favorites ? Pick a weak card . You can use this as bait (it is part of a strategy to deal with the Random rule). When you have 20 elnoyle cards , Cardmod them , then Ammo Mod the resulting stuff . Go to a trusted Junk Shop, mod Squall's weapon , look for LionHeart, select it , and you are done !
Note :When in Galbadia , play with Rinoa's dad , whoever he is , to get Rinoa's Card (lose to him Ifrit's card ,and he will be adding Rinoa's card to his hand when playing.)
