I cracked the case! Woohoo!
Ren
PS - Er, yeah.. Selphie is the ticket outa that room... been a while since I played the demo. You rented this at a store though? That's kinda weird... are you sure you didnt rent a game that had the FFVIII demo on it? Anyway, ya... the game rocks, but it *might* not be your cup of tea, so I DO suggest you try the demo before you buy... unless of course you can borrow it from a friend like someone else suggested.

That IS FF8, but it's not the demo, it's the beginning of the game. If I remember right, FF8 starts you out in the Classroom with Quistis. It is a bit confusing cause you have to go over and look at the computer monitor at Squalls desk in order to leave the room I think. That and you have to talk to Quistis as well. Hey (as in the person hey), do those two things and you'll be ok. Just make sure you like RPG's before you play FF8, cause it is a good RPG, but some people get bored real fast when playing RPG's....

FF8 isn't bad at all, but FF tactics is the king of them all.
If you ever played FF5 what really stands out is the job system, the job system allows a decent amount of customization but nothing compared to the one found in FFT.
There are so many things possible in the game that no two battles will be the same, and unlike FF7,8, or 9, the game is challengeing.
It is one of the most challengeing and fun games that I have ever played. Hands down, the best FF.

FFVIII does start in the infirmary and not in the class room with quistis!
But Ren already cracked the case.....he's stuck in a non-working demo, he mentions a chick and something about a party.....well that's Selphie and her party which is the start of the FFVIII demo.
So there
