With Final Fantasy X currently scheduled for a US release in January, Square stands to lose out on the holiday shopping season; something they can ill afford after a financially dismal year and a relatively small release schedule. To avoid this scenario, Square is planning to quietly ship about 500,000 copies of Final Fantasy X by the second or third week of December. The launch is planned to be totally unannounced, with no advertisements of any kind until the official release early next year, so those hoping to play Final Fantasy X over their break would be well advised to keep an eye on their local video game retailer of choice as Christmas draws near.
In further news, the previously announced Final Fantasy X demo on the PlayStation 2 Winter Jampack will merely be a translation of the two previous demos that were seen at the last Tokyo Game Show in October.

If its true, I'll have a copy in my hands the day the stores get them in their WAREHOUSES. Hope it is true though, since I'm itching to play it.
Then again, for whatever damn reason...I havn't finished FFIX...not even on the 2nd disc. Its the ONLY US FF game I havn't beaten within like a week or two of getting it, and I still don't know why.

Don't bother with IX. I actually don't even remember much of it, while I can recall minute details about VII. It's just that forgettable.
Oh, and I'll be harassing my local Babbage's every day come December until they fork over a copy.

I don't believe it.
Can you say "HYPE"?
It sounds like one of those rumours in the category: "Nobuo Uematsu is dead".
Why would Square be stupid enough to do something like this?
Yes, it's the shopping season but think of it this way:
If Square does this 'silent' release then there will be a lot of unsatisfied customers who were unable to grab themselves a copy. Unsatisfied customers are bad for business, even Square's.
Their year hasn't been that bad, so it isn't that they can "ill afford" missing the shopping season. If anything it would be even better to stick with the early 2002 release. Why? Well, we've got the shopping season on one side and we got a whole lot of gamers who are itching to play FFX on the other side. This is what happens: In the shopping season these gamers will buy other stuff. Perhaps some Square stuff as well (ie. FFX OSV).
Fast forward to the year 2002: FFX is released. The same gamers will buy FFX.
So what does this get them? Right, extra profits. Bonus. Jackpot. Whatever.
Anywayz, I don't believe it.

If it is untrue, it's pulling the wool over the eyes of some generally reliable sites...
