Jim
Well, considering that Sakaguchi is heading it, its not COMPLETELY for the name...
And Summons? Do you honestly think your average movie-goer cares about summons?
Chocobos and Mogs? They'll think they were put in for the kids.
Magic? Doesn't fit in TOO much with the sci-fi look they're going for. Remember, this is only like 2065 or something.
Card Game? What do you want, people running from town to town playing Triple Triad against each other? This can easily go.
RPG Elements? Er...its not an RPG, its a movie.
Look, I may agree with you a bit, but look at it this way. NO Final Fantasy games have ever taken place in a semi-modern time, or on Earth (its always "Planet", or never mentioned). Would seem kinda odd of Chocobos and Mogs suddenly appear out of nowhere in the near future, wouldn't you say?

I agree with Jim here. Sakaguchi san et al have a right to put the name Final Fantasy on almost anything they want to, cause they practically own it. If they want to make a Resident Evil type game, or even a fps, and call it Final Fantasy, they have every right to. It's their game. So I think no matter what name they give the movie, it's going to be good. I'm going to watch paying as little attention to the title (that is only going to bias my opinion!) and I will try to see it from a detached position. I'm not saying that's going to be easy, I mean, comparisons have to be made in this case, but I know I'm not going to be watching an RPG in the teather. Frankly, I don't ever want to watch an RPG in a teather. A movie with action seems better. Anyway, it's my opinion.

I would love to see some monsters or dragons or phoenixes (if that's word...

) in the movie, but you know it hasn't happened. I have to admit I'm a little bit disappointed with the way it's just about completely off track from everything Final Fantasy the game has been. Yeah okay so you couldn't really have chocobos in it. (Chocobos didn't really fit in to FFVIII, imo, but they still put them in there. I don't think that worked too well, Squall on a chocobo didn't really do much for his future-style hero look, so I can understand the lack of chocobos in the movie.) But just something to make it seem more like a Final Fantasy movie! I do kinda like the idea of them having some kind of in-joke for anyone who's played the Final Fantasy games...hehe...subliminal moogle messages?!

(just kidding...) But they could have done something just to make everyone who plays the game happy. It wouldn't have taken much just to have a couple of guys called Biggs and Wedge in there...or some kinda airship looking spaceship...that would've made it for me. Mind you, what am I saying? I haven't even seen this movie yet! It could be the greatest film of all time! (Okay, possibly optimistic, but I think it's gonna be pretty good...by the sounds of everyone's reviews, I hope it's better than the Tomb Raider movie.

I really wanted that to be a good film...*sigh*)
I will go and see the movie and I'll prolly buy the DVD, hopefully there'll be something a little bit Final Fantasy about it and hopefully it'll be good. If anything, the storyline from the trailer sounds sort of FF in mood, only stuck in a very non-FF time period. The whole "being on a quest to find stuff and save the world" or whatever is what FF games are about (oh yeah...it's what most rpg etc games are about

) so maybe there are some FF elements to it that people haven't considered yet. Anyway, the cgi looks amazing, so we'll see.

especially the female lead character
she looks more like a man (in some of the pictures)!!! ESPECIALLY ON THE POSTER!

Though I also agree with what Jim said before, it's still a shame that they didn't give the movie the Final Fantasy feel 'cause like Min Farshaw already said: wouldn't it just be awesome to see Bahamut do his flare attack on a huge screen along with boneshaking sound effects?
But that's probably only going to happen in our dreams

Dude, are you sure about that? She looks pretty feminine to me! She doesn't have to have a great voluptous body to be seen as a woman. See, women have this thing about their face...is way more delicate. And just by looking at Aki you can tell she's a woman...

Nah, she still looks like a girl! I mean, there's something about her that just tells you she's a girl. Anyway, what did you mean by that comment about the female characters in the FF series? Are you trying to say that they don't look feminine enough or something?

no i mean that she (aki) is NOT pretty enuf....comparing to the other female lead characters in the game
