Whoopde fucking shit. Its the same thing every year. The new Final Fantasy comes out, let's go get it. I don't feel like I'm getting it because I want to, but because I have to. I certainly don't want to play it. As I have said before, FF10 is a horrible fucking dub now. Besides that, the only difference this time is that we don't have to swap discs three or four times. Oh behold, the power of DVD. The FMV is still grainy... and we don't get a Japanese voice track. Honestly, fuck this.

Spok, if you don't like it, don't get it. While I don't think the dub is as good as it could be, it's not nearly as bad as it could be either, and if it ever does get to the point where I can't stand it anymore, I'll turn off the voices. If there's no option to, I'll turn down the volume on my TV. I'm buying this game because I love the series, I've been playing since 4 came out in the US and I've thoroughly enjoyed each one. I do agree with you, however, when you say it's stupid that we don't get the jap voicetrack. It's supposed to stand far above the english dub; I also hate that Square is now catering to the guy who beat the shit out of me in school for spending so much time with these games and not the "true"(I'm trying my best not to sound like an elitist. =P) fans, but it's a question of survival. If they went the DQ route(Enix seems to have purposefully doing the exact opposite of Square graphically) they'd have trouble. Especially over here, I don't know how well DQ7 is doing over here(I'd expect it to do well in Japan, it was highly-anticipated and had a long lineage of great games) but I do know that at the store I work at, it's not exactly flying off the shelves. Everything is becoming bastardized thanks to the mASS market, especially things like anime and videogames. One of the reasons I come to these boards is because I know I won't be assaulted with idiot remarks about how the english dub for Cowboy Bebop is better than the Japanese one, 'cause the Japanese sound like little kids and stuff. Bleh, I digress, if you don't want it, don't buy it.

Edit: I can't wait to see the magic performed with the FLCL dub. That's gonna bring a whole new wave of people I wanna smack the shit out of. =P

Gestahr, here is the problem, I have to buy it, because I DO actually want it. But on the other hand, I don't want ALL of it... do you see?
I want the newest Final Fantasy because they are just so fun to play. But this time I'm not sure how it's going to turn out. This time, I liked the gameplay (whatever there is of it) more than I liked the storyline, presentation, music, whatever. The demo's pacing was just AWKWARD and lethargic. The muic was generic. The graphics seem sub par. The lip syncing is so unbelievable (it causes to me to not take the game seriously). And that dub... yes, you can turn off the voices, but then you have a bunch of people moving their mouths with the lines being displayed, and I think that just looks eerie. I ran out on my bike and got the dub at 10:00 at night on a impulse realization that the demo was actually out. I was not impressed at all.
I will forever be anti-dub. This isn't only because they sound terrible. The Japanese voices sometimes don't sound much better but you can't tell if you speak another language. I am in favor of subtitles because I want to keep the original VAs just out of principle. How would you like it, if you worked hard on a show in Japan and got word it was going to be shown in the US. The only catch is, YOU'RE not in it anymore!-Spok-

I completely agree with you about the dubbing, but it goes back to the massmarket. You want an example of mass market, go to the gamefaqs FFX board and post how you think it'd sound better with the jap voices. You'll get 5 people who agree with you, and 50 who don't. Squaresoft doesn't care about you or those other 5, they care about the 50 that are gonna shell out cash to help them keep their heads above water. Squaresoft is like that kid in grade/highschool that the geeks befriend, and then, as soon as there's a glimmer of hope that he'll be accepted by the popular crowd, he sells out the geeks. I abhor the fact this is the way FF has become known. My friend worked in a rental store about the time that FF7 came out and people were renting the game, then bringing it back saying they didn't realize they "had to read" and such. I HATE seeing the things I grew up with bastardized in such a way. I HATE the fact that as soon as shit became polygonal every fucker jumped on the bandwagon. I HATE the fact that it's now "cool" to play videogames, and the fucking wanna-be gamer jocks hang around arcades with their girlfriends talking about how great the grapics look. I HATE the fact that every goddamn person is "hardcore". I HATE when fucking awesome titles either aren't brought over here or are and fail miserably(Tactics, Xenogears, Einhander and those three are Square games. Skies of Arcadia, which was better than Grandia 2 in every fucking aspect, sold pitifully because Grandia 2 had a large ad campaign and SOA had almost nothing. =|) because they don't have the flashiest graphics in the world, or the biggest ad campaigns. I HATE people who walk into Software Etc., look at the X-Box and it's games, and the PS2 and it's games and then walk over to me, AND after I explain for about 10 minutes why a system should be bought for the games(I always recommend the PS2), and not the power of it the customer says "Yeah, but, doesn't the X-Box have a 733 MHZ processor?" I HATE the fact that a set-top PC has entered the console wars. I hate that they're dubbed too, but until I learn japanese and get a jap PS2, I'll have to deal with it. I'm thankful there are people like Jason Rubin and companies like Naughty Dog out there who make fantastic games but don't piss themselves and sell out as soon as someone*cough*microsoft*cough* flashes green.
Sorry, this was much longer than I intended.
