If they did it well and not in a hentai "let's have girls falling in love with each other so guys can get kicks out of it" way it might be interesting for the series... thinking sort of like the anime Utena. That's really complex in a good way because of the difference in relationships, but I think FF is always going to stick to "mainstream" themes ie heterosexual relationships. Most societies don't think of it as unacceptable or taboo to be homosexual any more, so maybe something like that will happen eventually.

Anymore? It was always taboo. If you're gay you're still discriminated against, like getting married and not recieving the same benefits as heterosexual couples.
I want to see Square try a female lead in the next Final Fantasy. This trend of the male lead ever since Final Fantasy VII is starting to bother me.-Spok-

I was all excited when I saw the muddy, first release, handy-cam in a crowded room at a bad angle, shaky hand, slow focus videos of FFIX, cause I thought the lead character was a female. I agree, I think a female lead would be cool, as long as she's not fucking cocky. I hate cocky characters, and female leads always seem to get stuck with the "Uh oh, I've got something to prove to everyone around me, better turn on the fucking attitude" stigma.

Septerra Core is a nice little game with a well rounded female lead. The voice acting also ranges from decent-good.

Septerra Core was a kick ass game... but, should have been released a bit earlier, because it was outdated by the time it was on the shelf, unfortunately. I don't think it got the recognition it deserved...

Septerra Core was still a highly unoriginal cookie cutter RPG. That's why it didn't get the recognition it deserved.-Spok-

Septerra Core got the attention it deserved, it just wasn't mass market. I ennjoyed it, but thought some of the battles were way to time consuming and boring.
