Okay so.. now that I finally played FF7, I can say this to you all...
It was not the best one.
...in my opinion.
I still like FF8 more, and FF6 the most. I found the character development in FF7 poor...
Cloud was wishy washy, and I know that was the intent, but even at the very end I found him wishy washy. I've often heard in review of FF8 that disk 1 is amazing, and then it drops like a piano from the thirteenth floor as soon as you insert CD2... but I never felt that way about it. However for FF7, I DO... after disk one, I didn't feel a spark in the story that would make me put in two hours of gameplay. And thats the part that was NEW to me!!
FF7 did have alot of GREAT elements though. First off, is I agree the materia system is great... much better than junctioning, because it doesn't suffer anything. The different ways to combo things was nifty. That there were several different mini games was great, and all brought together back at the gold saucer.
I liked the limit break system, but I found it soooo slowwww to learnnnnnn. So slow infact, that I wound up cheating near the end and giving Cloud, Tifa and Cid all their limits, minus the 4th, with a trainer. I also did not delve into chocobo breeding, it sounded too tedious, so I just beat the weapons and got a gold chocobo. By the way, are we SUPPOSED to beat that black chocobo in the races? Thats insane.
Last thing.. why was there all this controversy about whether or not the planet was destroyed? Didn't anyone wait until the credits were finished for that 500 years later thing?

FF8 was the best of the series; Junctioning kicks your Materia in the teeth. :i
And the Black Chocobo can be beaten if you block him. :o A cheater like you should have no problem blocking him. :i
And the very end doesn't take place 500 years later. :O not allowed

Okay, please explain how the very end does not take place 500 years later, when they flash "500 YEARS LATER..." at the begining of the red+little reds running FMV sequence.
And I am fast becoming the master of time travel!
