Eh, I've only seen through the first disc of Noir (1-5), but I have mixed feelings already.
Yeah, it looks pretty good (although I am pissed with ADV's video interlacing problems), and it sounds pretty good (haven't watched the dub yet). But...eh, so far it seems to lack much substance. So far, most of the episodes have followed the exact same arc, oftened with the exact same musical cue to follow.
The violence is also very...uh...sterile. I'm not someone who really cares if something is bloody or not, but when you shoot someone in the head...there's going to be some blood. It doesn't need gore, but the simple fact that its completely bloodless (so far at least) just makes it look odd. I won't even get into at how some of these firefights have been somewhat...er...poor.
It may win me over in the end, but if I want something like this, I'll just load up a Luc Besson movie instead.
Okay, so Noir is getting some mixed reviews...
What about RahXephon? I just got the discs today, I have no clue what it's about and haven't watched it yet. I'm not even sure that's its correct name...---
Behold Drakkael, legendary slayer of topics
Speaking of Noir, I was very amused with the worlds greatest assassin getting captured and disarmed in the first episode. Whooooooooooooooo. not allowed
I don't think Mireille was really considered "the worlds greatest assassin," and if that title belonged to anyone (at least from what I can gather so far), it would be "Noir," whose latest incarnation is her and Kirika.
Of course every assassin thinks they're the top dog. You think she's going to start off the series with "Well..you know....I really suck....but....hey, I wear a skirt, so I know you're going to continue watching me."?
