I was thrilled when Cartoon Network aired FLCL virtually unedited during its Adult Swim block a while ago.
Some people, apparently, weren't.

Let me say that we are not extremists. We don't try to hide our kids from the real world, nor do we chase down every bad thing in life and try to abolish it or censor it. What we are saying is that this particular show is vulgar and dangerous and could possibly incite violence. We are outraged that it has been rated TV-PG to be openly viewed by kids on, of all places, The Cartoon Network.
I really don't know what to say.---

FLCL is japanese. It's so japanese, in fact, that americans are shocked and alarmed by it. Thats why they didn't care that the "machine guns" were airsoft guns, thats why they flipped out after seeing Haruko's ass when women walk around on beaches all the time wearing butt-floss. They aren't extremists, they aren't idiots, they're americans.
I dunno why this surprises you; these are the same people who buy hundreds of dollars(thousands, sometimes) of hardware and software for their children, then go after developers who's games, they feel, are too violent...
Maybe they are idiots. not allowed

Pay no attention to that article, there are contradictions abound.
The first is, the slot is called ADULT SWIM. The shows are aimed towards adults, not young adults, not children, but adults. CN Further enforced this, as I recall, by having some shows air at an earlier time with censorship (gundam?), while the adult swim slot remained uncensored (sort of).
The next is, it was rated PG-TV, which means parental guidance period if I'm not mistaken and the next one up from PG-13.
Then of course, they claim to trust their children watching TV unsupervised, because they rely on an installed parental code that disallowes anything PG-13 and above unless they are there. That would then disallow viewing of FLCL. So, it IS rated properly for their household. What the hell are they worried about.
But then.. maybe I should be cheering them on, in hopes that CN will stop translating these shows, which they don't seem to share with other networks. Then YTV could get 'em, and I'd be happy too.
Or something like that...

I have one thing to say about this, the rest of it just pisses me off. Surely any responsible parent would put their child to bed by midnight and not have them sat in front of the television?! >_

Hellsing's going to be on a cable channel soon. Something I'd never heard of before called Starz Encore Action apparently. :S
Incidentally, something I was arguing about with the bf this afternoon...as far as violent anime is concerned, is Hellsing a particularly extreme example? It probably is just because I like it that I didn't think so, but what are other people's opinions? It's certainly not as violent as the manga though. o_0
