I'm organising an event for the anime society and I want some opinions on the stuff I'm thinking of showing.
Everyone can have a cookie for guessing what the theme is right now. The genre suffers a bit (alright, a lot) from most-of-this-stuff-is-crap syndrome, but it's going to end up being a very cheesy night anyway so appaling isn't necessarily a bad thing...
Ratings out of five or whatever. ^_^
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust
Vampire Princess Miyu OVA
Vampire Princess Miyu TV
Vampire Saviour/Darkstalkers
Master Mosquiton
Nightwalker
Shingetsutan Tsukihime
Blood the Last Vampire

...and if you have any more suggestions for things that might fit into the "lots o' vampires" category, feel free to suggest. Oh yeah, and if any of them have gratuitous porn in (guess what? I haven't watched them all yet! ^_^;; ) that'd be a helpful thing to know...and avoid.

Blood is the only one I've watched in its entirety. Great animation, horrible story, but enough action to keep people interested for thirty minutes (just don't expect to have heated discussions on it afterwards...).
And it seems something's missing from the list...did you already show them all of Hellsing?

Hellsing is my glaring ommission from the list because we showed it last year. And also everyone's going to be expecting me to show it, cause they know it's my obssession. ^_^;;
I agree on Blood though. It's well animated, but that's about it. As a friend put it, "It's a really good middle of a film".

Being that Bloodlust and The Last Vampire are the only two on that list which I have seen, I can't offer much help. I thought D was quite good (pretty much what I was expecting D to be in the first place, instead of that awful B-grade horror movie that was the first one). I'll echo your comments on Blood The Last Vampire.
My advice (assuming you're skipping Hellsing)? Watch those two and just play some Castlevania.

I guess... I'm weird, but I think you should play the original vampire hunter d.
Miyu's OVA is better animated and has a consistent story to follow, but it just... stops, from what I can remember, then dives into the TV episodes, resolving nothing. Ultimately, the TV series has an ongoing story, however it is broken up badly between filler episodes, and mini side-stories -- which in their own rights are interesting. If I were to show the OVA and TV series, I'd probably be selective in the TV series, showing filler episodes, some backstory eps, and the some-odd four eps that have to do with the ending story. Recommendations I guess would be, the one about the woman who obsesses over her cat, the one about the father and his greenhouse, the one about the dollmaker, Larva's side story (2-parter), Reiha's past (I THINK 2 episodes, might only be one though), Miyu's past (Again, not sure if it's 1 or 2), and then the last few episodes having to do with the birdmen and Chisato.

My experience of Castlevania games begins and ends with Symphony of the Night. And the dub made me want to pull my own ears off. o_0 On the other hand, I'm a big fan of Ayami Kojima's work so we could sit and look at *artwork* for Castlevania to my heart's content.
