If you're a diehard Eva fan or something, then those fears are warranted. One of the many problems ADV will run into is simply adapting the work into something that is palatable to the general (American) audience.
Keep in mind that film (like any other art) is a business in addition to being an art form. So while ADV may have the best of intentions in bringing Eva to life, they also have to treat it as a business property, which can and will influence certain decisions along the way. This will only be more true if an American studio ends up backing the project (something that I don't see being too likely considering some of the themes and such in Eva). Call it selling out, but it's a necessary evil in order to do this (unless of course the rabid Eva fans can raise $100 million+ and expect little return on it...).
If this project ever gets off the ground, I wish it well. Best case scenario that I can imagine is that it'll turn out as the Lord Of The Rings trilogy has. It'll bring the main story and ideas into a new medium and to a new audience, while remaining fairly faithful to the source material. In the end only the die-hard purists, many of whom can't seem to grasp these concepts, will curse ADV for what they have done while the rest of us simply enjoy the show. Here's hoping...

And yes, while something like "Ray" is to be expected, "Kate Rose" is certainly making me raise an eyebrow...
