I hate it when someone thinks they "know" anime just because they watch it on Cartoon Network.

I was at my friend John's little get-together for his birthday last week, and we went to an arcade and stuff, that was fun. Then later on that night we were watching anime (instead of playing my ps2, which i brought over for NOTHING since we never played it!). First, we watched Akira. That was alright. It was boring, though, since it was the dubbed version (dirty, dirty english dub!), and because I've seen Akira like 100 times. Then we watched some Ninja Scroll OVA, and I just wasn't interested AT ALL. It was gay! Sure, I like mindless sex and violence once in a while, but I don't get worked up over it. They were treating it like it was a masterpiece:
"Ooh! Magic string can do anything!" Good fucking god!
"Hey, Matt, why exactly did that guy turn into stone and blow up?" "Because it's Cool!" Right...
"Ok, what does this old guy have to do with the story?" "Old people are funny!"
"What the hell just happened?" "Dude, they launched those 'ninja stars' like a gattling gun! That was cool!"
"Oh come on, what does this have to do with the story?" "It's just cool!"
And so on... Then I was like "I'm sorry, but I'm just not interested in this at all.." and John's girlfriend was like "Well you have to start out at the lower forms of anime, first, then you'll understand this." and I was like "Well, I've been watching anime for at least 10 years.." Apparently, she either didn't hear me, or refused to listen.. I got really mad about this. I didn't want to blow up at her, since John is a good friend. What I wanted to say, though, was "Shut the fuck up, bitch! I've been watching Anime longer than you have! You fucking freshman, just shut the fuck up. You think you're all cool, watching your crappy english dubbed anime, watching your Dragon Ball Z on Cartoon Network. You think you know everything there is to know about anime because you've seen a couple english dubbed videos and some episodes of sub-par anime on Cartoon Network. Well you know what? YOU KNOW NOTHING!!!" I was just so pissed about that remark, I had to go outside (It was about 22:30) run a few blocks away, and just YELL!! "AAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!! SHUT UP!!" I swear.. Then I went back to John's house, and he's like "Where did you go?" and I was like "I had to take a walk."

i know how it feels
i watched dragon ball when i first came out...which when i was like 2 and should be watching sesame street, which i didn't..
seen all those stuff and like 11 years later, i came on tv in canada and us, and ppl start calling themselves "pros" of the anime
the know NOTHING because the dubbed ones where so bad
they changed the whole story so its like they wrote it themselves and only used the animation
also, the call themselves the master of all anime when all they ever saw was pocket monster (ack!), dbz, sailormoon (i was a REAL fan of it long time ago, i even knew their b-day!), and those craps
its a shame that anime had been mistreated so badly
so i go watch those other stuff that just came in jp
i remember my brother was watching vision of escaflowne and the guy called himself "samuri" when its so clear that he is a knight
DUH!!!!!!!!!!
ohh....have anyone seen that new anime based on the chinese story "journey to the west"? its sooooooooo funny. i for got whats its name.... something "S" jouney

I know exactlly how you all feel since theres alot of anime out there and some are good some are crap. For one thing anime is changing since its getting alot of recognision from the general public. A few years back only a selected few non-Asians knew about anime but now with cartoon network, Fox, WB, and other stations bitting into it anime has gained atleast twice its audiance but lost its true form.
for one thing anime is not really ment to be dubbed. what i mean by this is that by dubbing the anime you loses that anime feeling. yes, it is conviniant for non-japanese speakers but it looses its flaver (if thats the right word)
Next pokemon, one thing that I suspect is that Pokemon has been a huge hit in america that the rest of the networks want a peice of it. they try to bring out appealing anime that is dubbed such as "The Visions of Escaflone" "dragon ball" "Sailor moon" "Card captor Sakura" "Digimon" etc. Some of these animes are not ment to be publisized like this. TRUST me on this!!!! Escaflone was so violent that FOX had to cancel it with in the first 10 episodes and all the violent scenes where cut off so the show was too short and if they do show violent scenes the parents are gonna bitch about it thus resulting in a bad reputation for anime.
Also to the ones who are getting all excited on Dragonball get a larger vocabulary for anime please. Some people think that Dragonba;ll is new. What the fuck are you talking about! its been on since I was 6 years old! Another thing is that Dragonball has lost its ways. Dragonball used to be a anime show that was about adventure but now on dragonball Z and GT its all about fighting mindless fighting! Its a stupid fucking cycle about training and fighting! At that point Toriyama Akira (the creater and artist) sold out on his work. he just wanted the series to continue so he could make a profit, well guess what people? over half the art work in Dragonball isn't done by him at all its done by his assistants and students. Finally whats with the murchandise? I go out to anime shops and see dragonball t-shirts and toys but there all bootleg! I just cried when I saw some action figures of Goku with a fucking buzuka! whats the hell is with that! To the people who are fans of dragonball i dont care what you think is good anime but i sure dont think it is! and all the info I said is true research it yourself.
No one watches the classics anymore. for one thing everyone loves what ADV pumps out and thats ok i watch some of it too but no one knows bout the father of anime... no its more like the father of all japanese manga. that man's name is Osamu Tesuga. He created Atom or more known as Astro boy, created The Jungle Emeperor or the Disney copy is The Lion King (Yes the plot is exactlly the same! its a rip!) or the Phenix and Blackjack (my personal favorite). These are classics that can not be matched by anyone else and will stay in history but now its being forgotton by young viewers. no one like it because the pictures are all faded or its not as good. Well i can accept that since i like good graphics (heck im a cyber hippie) but hows about the remakes? they do have them. C'mon people lets enjoy the classics like Lupin the 3rd. They are all good stuuf that makes almost any anime look like crap. i suggest you watch the anime or atleast read the manga.
My rant is a warning to the networks saying "Stop pumping out anime left and right! make your choses more wisely!" I suspect anime might be taking the turn for the worse and it pains me to watch this happen. I just want the true meaning of anime back. NO i am not saying some people who watch certaint types of anime are stupid or inferior but i warn them to see what anime is because there is something that seperates cartoons from anime. what the differance is is something everyone must find for themselves.
Thank you for reading all of this
So until next time ....
live long
watch anime
and peace

Fuck yeah dude I watched Dragonball when I was a wee child, in my infancy of my Otaku lifestyle (
![]()
). I loved it because it was pure adventure, with some action-fighting thrown in for good measure. Now look at this piece of dubbed shit on Cartoon Network. It's all fights! "Next week, the shit saga." Let me guess, is it about fighting every single person in the world? Ah, yes it is.
Slaughtering Anime.. That's what these networks are doing. They're not promoting it, they're slicing and dicing it up by dubbing it and, many times, cutting out key scenes. I don't know what the hell FOX was thinking by trying to air Escaflowne. It's not meant for minors. Then they just killed the storyline by getting rid of about 95% of the violent scenes. Nice going!
Well I'm done ranting, time for some LA Kings hockey..
So there's my US$0.02 :-)

Damn it man! Ninja Scroll is a good movie, no one should be talking such crap about it like that! anoways I have been watching DBZ when I saw a kid to, but those were the Jappanese ones. So I did not understand much. But know I watch somuch Jappanese, I can almost undetstand what they are saying. When I see a Jappanese movie andI guess at the story line to what I think they are saying, I see the American version and I was RIGHT! So anyway, if people do not know anything about anime and just care about watching to blood and action part of it, then I think they should not be watching it, but other movies like Gone in 60 Sec, or Exit Wounds.

Eh.. Sorry, I'm just not into mindless violence. I like psychological thrillers like Evangelion and Lain. Anime that messes with your head. I also like comedies like Love Hina.

It's all about head twisting plots that the audiance has to think for themselves. Sure violence is cool but mindless ones with no point is just .... I dont know the right word for it but it just isn't right.
Im just wondering if girl cyber hippies like violence both mindless and ones with some point to it.
I give MoonKnight a "OH HELL YEAH!!!" for good insight!

i like violence with plot
for example, patlabor (its old), this show has a plot in it, not like some other dumbass show
gee.....gundamn.....this thing had been existing since the 70's...still with week plot and just endless killing
sucks....
personally, i watch anime with some kind of plot in it...not just watching it because of the characters or the image......but what's inside
well....image IS important.....hahah
just ranting:
manga love hina and anime love hina is COMPLETELY different....
its almost not related....
i prefere the manga more
