Let me first say that I've seen VERY little of this (we're talking, 2 minutes, tops). And I've been waiting for a GOOD version of it to come out on dvd, since the one I breifly saw left me, well, disappointed (forget about Mononoke quality, this was practically REAL PLAYER quality ).
Everyone keeps telling me to watch it, and if I do, I'll probably get each dvd (at least, when they're all released). But (A) I don't feel like shelling out a couple hundred dollars for something that's not "great" quality, and (B), I'm not shelling out a couple hundred dollars on another dvd that'll be replaced with a "special edition" in two years (put it this way, I have at LEAST two different copies of Tora Tora Tora, Se7en, and probably 3 or 4 DIFFERENT copies of Hard Boiled [although Woo is worth it ]).

So, at least personally, would you recommend someone like me, who knows practically nothing about anime or the series to watch and/or buy it? And is there any chance you can send me an episode or two to try and convince me so?

I thought princess mononoke looked really good on dvd. I found Evangelions quallity too be fine. I would personally recomend Evangelion to you, because its got the same kind of story telling/story as a final fantasy, you think you understand but then the plot is opened a little more and then your left feeling curious again. The charicters agre great too, the whole thing really is good! and I cant wait to see the last 6 eps. So definitly watch it! I wasn't to happy about the anti-christian vibe the series has but, its more because the Japanese's dislike for alien ideolgys.Jed

You're in the UK aren't you? Don't suppose you know anywhere where I can get hold of anime over here? I'm just fed up the fact that there doesn't seem to be any around anywhere that even knows about anime. I'm desparate to get some Gundam DVDs but there isn't anything for sale in region two format so I can't buy any of it. And I don't have the money to get another DVD player! katyjag, a young revolutionary...

I think the 8th one comes out sometime in June.
Anyways, to try and see what the fuss is about, I picked up the first dvd. Eh...no offense, but will the story start to get a bit better? I was kinda disappointed. Then again, I'm not used to this kind of anime, and it could just be me. Anyways, knowing how I am though, I'll end up buying the next 7 volumes shortly, as well as the two movies that Manga is releasing at the end of the year.

Thanks Jim, hopefully the shop will get it in soon! Yeah I wasn't sure about the series at first, but I rented the 2nd dvd anyway, and In it the charicters start to develop more. The whole thing progresses As they start to deal with the charicters relationships, history. The Eva's and the angels past. Hard to explain, but its never obvious were the plot is going and I found that its an enjoyable series if you stick with it, I like it
Katyjag, If you have sky you can get the cartoon network. It has Dragon Ball Z, Gundam Wing & Tenchi Muyo. You can also try Ebay and Black Star for animes, they are good internet sites for this kinda stuff
                  (www.blackstar.co.uk/ www.ebay.co.uk/)
I'm very lucky from the point of view that I have a shop thats local and the dude who runs it, shoot over to America every wee will to pick up loads a cool gear! I watch my DVDs on my PC, No regional lock outs. You can also get some Anime DVDs in HMV, I have seen Perfect Blue, Ninja Scroll and fist of the north star. At a glance. Good luck too ya!Jed

Cool, thanks. Yeah, I have CN and I watch what they show, but I'm on ntl (free internet all day every day was such a draw...) and CN stops showing at 9pm at night so I can't watch any of the stuff they show after that. For a while I think they were showing Tenchi and Gundam Wing then...annoying because I like those shows.
....break to go look at those sites ....
All the Tenchi videos they had on Blackstar have been deleted! Oh well. I will have to look out next time I'm in an HMV then. I hope one day someone over here realises that some of us like GW and all that and release some episodes on DVD. Well, it could happen. I was surprised when I walked in to Woolworths and they had LOADS of Gundam models, so, maybe it'll happen! Thanks for the advice JDC. Maybe I should get a DVD drive for my PC...I didn't realise they weren't regionally locked out, that's pretty cool. Anyways, thanks very much for the help. katyjag, a young revolutionary...
