i think everyone knew that. Anno Hideaki was depressed when he wrote the whole thing, and when fans complained about the last episode (episode 25) he got really angry. that's why he made the theatrical releases and pretty much killed off everybody, pretty much destroying any chance of an evangelion comeback.
So there's my 2.5 :-)

Although some aspects of the series grew repetetive or overused, the Ending was masterfully done. It did not rely on the medium to convey emotion as many like movies/shows do, rather, built on the viewer's knowledge of the characters. I don't know nearly as much about the creator as moonknight but I think his technique/style in the ending should be emulated in other anime and even film.
