Oh shit.
Well, this is quite a coincidence seeing this again. And I have some explaining to do...seeing as how I wrote that "article."
Some months ago, I had an account at GameFAQs. While I was in Korea last summer, I got incredibly bored and a little frustrated at the language barrier. So while I was at a relative's house, I spent close to two and a half hours writing what was originally intended to be a funny hoax. I posted this on the GameFAQs PS2 messageboard in a new thread, spanning about four posts.
The thread exploded. Everyone believed it. After just 10 posts gushing about the PS3, I couldn't take it anymore. I made another post admitting the article's false nature, and apologized profusely to everyone in the thread. Thankfully, the other users praised my believability and writing style instead of flaming me as I deserved, but nevertheless a moderator subsequently deleted the thread, and shortly afterwords my account was banned on a separate matter (the account name was "Sigil," if you're interested).
Unfortunately, the hoax survived in some forms. I was very lucky that the Korean timezone is 11 hours off, and my thread was created in the early hours of the morning when few users are present on the boards. So some of the damage was prevented. But still, the Dynasty Warriors 3 board duplicated my post and became very excited for about a week before I could defuse it. TekkenZaibatsu had a thread that quoted me quite profusely, but luckily it quickly degenerated into an XBox v. PS2 war and was deleted when people lost interest and it reached the end of the queue.
This is the first time I have seen my article taken at face value (or even had its existence acknowledged) by an actual gaming site. Just the thought of having it believed now sickens me, and I cannot understand how I could have been so stupid.
Incidentally, CyCade missed the last paragraph of my post: "The PS3 is still quite a ways off. Its tentative projected date is Fall 2006, and the hardware will undoubtedly undergo many changes along the way to reduce cost and improve some slight graphical glitches (such as a noticeable hitch when some textures are swapped out for polygonal detail on Jin's wings, and some slowdown in the temple destruction in the same demo). But from what we've seen so far, Sony is still poised to take the market by storm again."
And through hindsight, I realize that not only did I grossly underpower the imaginary PS3 (the Radeon 9700 Pro that was released later is evidence of that) and not plan for advancements beyond DDS5.1, but I also forgot to mention internet gaming at all, something I'd originally planned to include in the "funny hoax."
Some of the things I mentioned (such as BRD support, modified dual EE/GS chips to cut down on the production cost of the PS3 and take advantage of their naturally parallel nature, and the solution for backwards compatibility compatibility combined with 4 controller slots) I thought were rather clever. But taken as a whole, I am so, so sorry. Words cannot express how much I wish I had never written this article and misled honest people.
