Oh, that's okay then. Texans generally consider themselves a sovereign state separate from the rest of America, and that's just fine with the rest of the country.

I sometimes get the same type of thing when I head to the northern half of the US. Since I am from Texas, people ask if I ride a horse to go to school. I also get asked about farming and whether or not anyone I know is inbreeding.
Apparently allot of people think that everyone who lives in Texas rides horses, raises cattle and inbreeds! I guess it goes to show that allot of people in America don't even travel out of state, or at least not to a state on the other side of the country!

America by FAR is not the wealthiest in comparison to population.
I found this out in a grade 12 maths assignment :P They also have one of the worst bell curved financial spreads in the world.
In general, Americans to me are loud and abnoxious. Generally to them, their world IS America. But that is only generalising the 'American discourse'.
I Am however proven wrong by alot of people in chv, and other general discourses (anime freaks :P). For example, those who are american here would love to have a holiday in japan right? So those americans who love to embrace new cultures i give a hands up for. But too many americans blindly believe in things. I wonder how many americans believed that aussies actually rode in kangaroos, after watching simpsons....
seriously if you tried to get into a kangaroo youd be dead on the ground. those things are MEAN.
