Riiiight...
So...let me get this straight. These kids enjoyed a TEXT-BASED, TURN-BASED, browser game set in farking medieval times, and that caused them to go on their killing spree.
Are the reactionary soccer moms even TRYING anymore? I was expecting a "link" that showed these kids also played something like Counter-Strike or GTA (the only "link" there being KIDS PLAY GAMES), but I think they've hit a new low on this one.

"Lovett's uncle, Thomas Crymes, said the June graduate of Collingswood High School whose mother died nine years ago was on his computer ``constantly.''
``He never went anywhere with anybody,'' Crymes said."

You think by reading that a logical guess would be the kid has more problems than just violent videogames.... ah- but that's to easy!
I blame the Iraq war on those damn video games.
-vidiot-
I don't know why anyone has linked video games to drugs yet. Mario getting bigger by getting "shrooms" or characters from Resident Evil getting better by smoking weed....I mean, using "herbs". I want to see a story like that.

It's all the gun violence in those medieval games, that's what it is...
>_<
The kid was mentally unwell. He blatantly has these ideas outside of playing videogames. >_< I like the fact they mention "...an apparent reference to the main character of ``Matrix,'' which is both a movie and a computer game." ...because the computer game part of it is obviously where the evil influence lies. >_<
Sorry, I'll stop the scathingness now. Yes, there is a problem if kids want to do things like that. No, videogames are not the obvious cause of the problem.

Oh my fuck. That pisses me off to no end.
Here is the feedback I sent:

This is in regard to the article located at www.bayarea.com/mld/mercu...255731.htm
I would just like to congratulate you for being the next group of people who are helping to make video game players look evil. Great work for doing your research! Inspired by violent computer games, eh? The game titled "Warriors of Freedom" is a TEXT BASED game set in medieval times where players can "build an army which can be comprised of humans, dwarfs and elves." Oh yeah, they were inspired by that alright because everyone knows that medieval times were plagued by shootings.
So Matthew Lovett's plan is linked to video games? What about the fact that ever since his mother died nine years ago he's been on his computer constantly. Does that matter at all? No, apparently not. It doesn't matter that the kid was already troubled, the sheer fact that he plays video games automatically creates a link between that video game playing and his plan to kill. Excellent logic, I applaud you.
Has it ever occured to you that maybe the video games aren't what caused him to plan this, but his already troubled mind? Oh, no, that's too easy. And we need to be sensationalistic about this. Video games! That's it, video games are to blame.
I know nobody will care about this. Someone might, if I'm lucky, skim through this and promptly delete it. I don't care, though, as long as I get at least one person to think about what I've said, I've done more than enough.
Quit bashing video games. Look at the person and ask yourself, "Did video games cause this, or was the behavior preexisting or had a possibility of preexisting?"

Well, if videogames have taught me anything, its that getting guns and shooting people is the best way to deal with anything that pisses me off. :o Lock and load, everyone. :Dnot allowed

I should point out that the lawyer who found this "connection" is the same one who claimed that the Beltway Sniper had been trained by playing Halo (and the victims should sue MS) and only refers to games like Grand Theft Auto as "Murder Simulators" (as he did in one case defending that GTA3 had caused a girl's murder).
Thankfully, we are blessed to be shown this wonderful insight, and it wasn't the parent's fault (for allowing the kid to get his hands on this arsenal), or the other students' fault (for the constant teasing), or hell, the kid's fault (for...well...going out there trying to kill people). Thankfully, we can now place the blame on text RPGs, and sleep well at night knowing that the violent felon on the street corner will cause no harm, simply because he doesn't play videogames.
Whether or not he's somehow related to Mr. Lieberman is up for grabs.
