im pretty sure AA is still up... but i can't think of anyone I know that still uses it or updates any more.
Does friendster actually reveal your last name? i thought only if you searches for someone using their last name or when you try to add someone as a friend they use your last name...?

The only time Friendster shows your last name is if you send an Add Friend request to someone. It tells that person your full name.
