I know this was brought up before and was shot down (including by me; sorry, whoever tried to tell us the first time...), but I recently installed phpBB and wish I had done it much sooner. I HIGHLY recommend it instead of EzBoard.
It's 100% free (no ads whatsoever), fully customizable, VERY easy to use, and has infinitely more options/better functionality.
If anyone has some extra web space and a little bit of free time, I don't mind showing you how to set it up and make it look almost identical to this place.
I'm not associated with phpBB, I just wanted to share the love.

i know all about the magic of phpbb. my buddy chuck runs the hephnet forums with phpbb.
it's just that this place really doesn't get much activity anymore, so there really isn't a need to move to something "better". besides, what's so bad about ezboard?
i'm gonna remove the ads now, we have over a year credited to our account because of having the targeted advertising, and i really doubt this place is gonna be active by the time that credit ends.

Okie, just thought I'd bring it up...
I actually had the opposite thought about the activity here; since the board only has about 20 regulars, it wouldn't take much effort (or bandwidth) to relocate/upgrade.
It's not that EzBoard is that "bad," per se; as a stand-alone message board, it works fine, but just from a web admin point of view, it's not "good" either. Their pre-coded classes are awful for trying to do any advanced customization with, and for the minimum level of activity, "Gold Community" costs more than my domain name, message boards, e-mail servers, and storage space combined. Plus I had a fight with one of the EzMods.
But if you already renewed the place for a year, never mind.

This board'll still be here in a year...and we'll all still be struggling along in our post-apocalyptic way like we usually do....
The ads don't bother me particularly. The kind of thing they think is appropriate to the topics we discuss are invariably wrong and frequently amusing.

I beleive I already made the offer to host some forums... but it was shot down... and a damn shame too
I got a few high-ish performance machines hooked to the net now and eating bandwidth (ut2k4 is very popular )

oh, and the Invision Board is supposedly much better than phpBB... besides I already know how to "hack" IBF

I dont think this board will die in a year.. two years...
We've all been regularily, if at a slow pace, posting here and chatting.. so I mean... whatever.
I like IBF, I have it over at ethiria. And while using phpBB or IBF would be an improvement to the CHV boards we have here, I too don't really think it absolutely nessesary.. know what I mean? But then, if you admin/mods were to decide to go with it, it wouldnt bother me either.
