I think they proved that Pokemon wasn't a fad a few years ago, when the 11th version of the same game was released to rave reviews and insane sales.
If Pokemon is a fad, then, but that definition, videogames are a fad, too.

Everything is going as planned.
Except for that part where Nintendo Wiis are outselling PS3s 6 to 1. :O
However, it seems like the "Holy @#%$, Nintendo did it to us again." realization is starting to set in with a lot of people, so we'll see how it goes.
Nintendo doesn't care, though. As far as they are concerned, they've already won, thanks to the profit they make on each console. That's not super good for 3rd parties, though, but we'll have to wait and see.
