After fillling out a form for a free ps2 demo of this game I finally recived it several months later (3-6 weeks bullshit :P) In that time, I have bought a xbox and have a couple games and a mame emulator running off of it.
:P
Okay the demo took place in a dam thats overrun by werid looking soviet troppers and zombies running amok. Its all good, if not done before, but its not bad. The game has a overdone cartoony look that makes you think if you should be laughing or freaking out after blowing an enemy away. I like the style but some people may take it as a little cheesy. If there is one thing that blew me away it was the frame rate. Jeze, man is this thing smooth. NEVER did I experiance a hint of slowdown, the thing flew at a solid 60+ frames and stuck there no matter how coplicated the situation was and it was amazing it was running off the ps2. I dont know what the final product is going to be like, but I hope this sticks with it.
The demo started up with the aiming inverted (ex: aiming up makes you look down) this aint bad in a flight simulator, but I can understand how people can play a console fps like this. Thankfully you could change it, in fact you have tottal custimozation on your controller. (nice)
Graphics are okay, enviroment looks a little blocky and artifical, but it blends in with the games cartoony atmosphere.
Controls are very tight and nice, not much trouble.
And oh yeah, the objective variety was really well done. Missions are not linear like MOH in which you do each one in a row thats represented in your mission objectives. (Ex: first find the bombs, THEN you can blow up the thing) Your first objective is to blow up a communications radar, you have to back-track a looong way and complete a number of objectives before you even come around going back to the radar and blowing it up with a mine you pick up later.
Some sneaking is in there, nothing amazing but its there. The "sneaking", is basically shooting little security cameras before they spot you and set off a alarm where a couple guards will shoot you. (Which is meaningless compared to the massive amount of shooting you do in each level, I didnt even notice there were security cameras untill later.)
The game oddly feels a lot like GoldenEye and has a nice "fly by to the charicter" at the start of the level, even the death animations are over the top.
vidiot likes...so far.
