Started playing this last week - LOVING IT!!
It's in the same vein as Tekken 3 and TTT, all the things that I didn't really like about T4 are gone (ie: holding down makes you duck, not walk out of the screen).
It really does play like old school Tekken. It feels much faster, with each round having a frantic pace full of hard hitting combos. You really feel the impact of the hits - the collision detection is also pretty spot on.
Most of my old juggles still worked, a few had to be re-tweaked in terms of timing, but nothing too serious. I hated how T4 made the walls the make-or-break of nearly every fight, T5 moves away from this with lots of spacious playing surfaces ala Tekkens 1 to 3.
The favs are back - Law, Paul, Nina, King, Lei, Jin, Julia, Xiaoyu, Lee. Even Wang made the cut, with a complete re-working in terms of the character model used. He looks much closer to Shun from VF fame in T5. Hmmm..
Fav bits:
*well made, often funny, ending FMVs for all characters.
*characters (mostly) speaking in their native tongue.
*return to old style Tekken - not as much emphasis on strafing and walls.
*GORGEOUS backgrounds, personal fav is the fullmoon lit field with stalks of fluffy things everywhere.
*Arcade History includes arcade modes of Tekken 1, Tekken 2 ver.B, and Tekken 3!!! Relive those classic fights all over again!!
Worst bits:
*absolutely shocking final boss which is 100% un-fun to fight against.
*menu system feels very SC2 (more just a trivial annoyance, but I can't think of many negatives.. hehe)
If you liked Tekken 3 or TTT, you'll probably get a kick out of Tekken 5. Stunning visuals, decent soundtrack, lovely bone-crunching SFX as usual, pretty FMVs, solid game play. Ahhhh... Haven't been this stuck into a fighter since GGXX#R!
