I have a game saved just before the final battle of FFVIII, and for the life of me, I can not beat Ultimecia. See, the problem is, I missed getting any Holy Wars or Hero Drinks, so I can't become invincible easily. Every time I've tried to beat her, she destroys my characters.
So... Advice? I've been stuck there for over a year.

Get Squall's Lionheart gunblade as a must. Get a big pile of auras for your other characters and go nuts with Renzokuken (and Zell's Duel if you are good at it - have character 3 as the main healer.) That's how I do it - not particularly skillful, but it gets the job done. (Plus I like doing Renzokuken...it's fun. ) It's much easier if you have everyone on a high level. I use Squall, Zell and Rinoa normally. (I junction everything up to them then just let the other characters get ko'd until I have my good line-up.) Get a load of forbidden magic too. You can boost everyone's stats up to the max if you get a load of meteor/ultima etc and junction it to whichever stats you want the highest. (You can get a load of forbidden magic if you go to the Island Closest to Hell/Heaven, if you know where they are. Equip enc-none and run around on the world map pressing x to find hidden draw points.) There are tonnes of ways to beat Ultimecia, that's just one of the methods I've used. I did it in about twenty minutes first time round doing it this way. Oh, and incidentally, if you're looking for holy wars/megalixars etc, try card modding some of the good cards. Gilgamesh and Bahamut's cards are very useful, I think they're the two that you need. (If you completed the card club sidequest in Balamb Garden you should be able to win any of the cards you need from the people onboard Ragnarok back on the world map.) So easy... Just junction as many meteors it takes so the squall's strength gets to 250, junction 50 or more ultima in the elem-def, or something, so that you ABSORB any elemenatl magic she uses at you. HE NEEDS THE LIONHEART. Try to do the same with every one, if your willing to waste that much time... Equip the auto potion ability to every one in your party and be sure to have only +high potions. Dont worry to cure anyone, they will use the auto potion tecnic if they are dying. Just cure the stats efects. Its better if you can mantain every one with yellow life so that they can limit break. Just atack the whole way through until you kill them all (I think the're 5 boses or something)DO NOT cast magic. Equip the recover tecninc if you wish. Its pretty easy, and if you need to train goto the islands near to hell. There you will find Blue dragons, Hexadragons, Malboros, Red dragons. I got squall to lv 100 and the rest to 75-80. Try it. It will take you aprox. 10 minutes or so...Ram.

Those were the easy ways ...
THIS IS THE HARD WAY !!! MWAHAHHAHAHAH !!!
No lionheart ,no auras, no heros or holy wars , 2 seals still on you ...
THIS ONLY WORKS 5 out of 30 tries !!!
Try and get your best team to stay together by letting the weaker people in the random pickup die, which will eventually give you your required group. The seals on GF and items can stay, but not the rest ... revive is a MUST . You have to stock up enough life(50 at least)and curaga, and they must not be junctioned to anything.
The rest is up to you .
Fight the first form of ultimecia afap, just whack the hell outta her. Don't bother rejuvenating weaker party members.It is a good idea you have auto haste and reflect your party members with triple (waste 1 or 2 won't hurt).This usually makes ultimecia dispel you, giving you time to attack.
Kill griever fast ! Before it gets a chance to even use the second shockwave pulsar !(should know when the place start to rotate like mad.)
Then the ultimecia/griever ...
destroy her/it before the hex things appear will save you more energy and resources. If not, you will just have to fight till your very last.
Finally , the last form of ultimecia.Whenever you get whacked with hell's judgement quickly make your strongest character do his/her limit break.Within that short period when the limit break is starting, quickly switch to another character with triple on to give your entire party curaga.
Repeat all this and pray that ultimecia does not try to whack you when you have 1 health.
Hard, but really possible if you are lucky.

whoa.. didnt realise pplz had any trouble beating Ultimecia?! i found her a major anti-climax to the game.. i spent time building up my characters b4 facing her so everyone was at lvl90-100.. then i got in and killed her in about 10mintues.. hRmzZz.. not my idea of a 'final boss'
ok lemme see, i didnt need to use Holy Wars or Hero Drinks.. i didnt need invincible moon.. hRmzz.. i just beat the crap outta her!~! seriously, i remember killing her final form in one limit break. oh yeah, and i hardly used squall at all ^^; Zell was my strongest character and i could dish out stacks more damage with his limit break.. so i never even got to do a lionheart on her.. just 'Duel'ed her to death! hahahhaa... if zell has 255stat for str and str30% + 20% (from bahumut), and u get 12sec limit break u can do hideous damage. eg: it takes u 0.10sec on average to hit the right buttons to do a move (if ur quick) stick with Booya and Punch Rush.. just O,X and then Right, Left.. trust me, each one takes off about 3,000-4,000 if he is strong.. work that out. roughly 360,000 per limit break. even more if times are bad...
just in case u's didnt know, the more trouble ur in the more desperate ur characters will be, so that means ull usually get better attack options. especially for limit breaks.. unbelievble advantages...
best strat if ur gonna use Holy Wars or other invincible methods (yea, even tho thats cheap i know) wait til she does a hells judgement and everyone is on 1hp.. that way, ur crisis level will be really high so everyones limit breaks should use their final attack.. ie: Zell will get 12sec for his duel, Rinoa will get Wishing Star, Squall will get his Linoheart blah blah blah.
