Those little fuckers in FFTA had FFXII way before any of us. :i

Anyone else find it strange how completely silent the hype-machine is about this game? They've been riding the same two or so barebones demos and trailers for years now, and we know almost nothing that we didn't shortly after it was announced.
This is a weird, weird game for the trunk of the FF series.

Maybe it's because I've never really played any of the Final Fantasy games other than FFTA, and even then I didn't play it for very long because I ended up loaning it to a friend.

Drak, what purpose would the hype machine serve by talking up a game that's still a good number of months away? Square could've hyped up Kingdom Hearts 2, but it wouldn't accomplish much either, since we won't be getting it until next year. And even with little more than a few screens here and there, and the same three or four trailers, I'm sure it easily ranks high among the 10 most wanted upcoming PS2 games.
It's just getting started. The demo for it next week is just the first step.

I don't know. It's been a while and my memory isn't my strong point, but I thought 7, 8, 9, and 10 got quite a bit more coverage (literally, on the gaming magazine cover) and fanfare from the press and the population, even long prior to release. Feel free to correct that impression, I'm probably wrong. My memory isn't my strong point (have I mentioned that already?).
Actually, it seems to me that KH2 is getting a fair bit of hype. New details or worlds are revealed regularly (TRON!), as well as new magazine specials with new screens (instead of the multiply-recycled FMV stills that seem to make up a large part of FFXII's media), at least in Japan. Meanwhile, FFXII disappears completely off the map for months at a time, and the most noteworthy new information about it is that Judges from different countries wear different armor. If you asked me to name more than two or three principal characters or what weapons they use, I wouldn't be able to. Can you?
It could just be me. Certainly the numbers agree with you, so I may just be less enthused than usual and projecting.
Looking forward to the demo impressions.

Fran uses a bow, Vaan uses a 1 handed sword and shield combo and Ashe presumably uses a wand of some sort.
