My personal favorite is "Record of Lodoss War"
    - followed very closely by "Vampire Hunter D"
    Other ones I'd recommend are:
    "Princess Mononoke"
"Ninja Scroll" (minus the unnecessary violation scenes )
    "Card Captor Sakura"
    "Iria"
and, even though it's not really anime, the "Spawn" animated series is pretty cool too.
Hrmmm... I know I'm missing a whole bunch in there, but that's all the ones I can think of off the top of my head...
    Laterz!
[Edit: whoa, Todd McFarlane would kick my @$$ if he knew I somehow managed to misspell "Spawn"...]

Things don't have to be this way.
Catch me on a better day.

Haha, I can see what you mean. I was trying to convince a female friend of mine to watch a movie, and she finally picked up a copy of Ninja Scroll that another friend had left at my house. I hadn't seen it either, but I can definately remember that look on her face when she saw that!

As movies Go see all Hayao Miyazaki's works they are so awsome!
            esp Laputa & Princess Mononoke. It was Laputa that started me off in my Cyber Hippy ways at a young age! ^_^;;
AKIRA - I guess this is just manditory for any ones Anime education, its Good but I wouldn't call it my Favourite.
As for series - DRAGON BALL Z and Gundam Wing! these are great. I also quite liked the Guyver series, was a bit wierd like but not bad.
Don't watch Ruin Chasers (think thats it) caus its utter crap. It has all the effects of an anime but no substance and is quite boring, you have been warned.
My anime knowlage isn't very extencive as In Northern Ireland It's kinda an underground movement, its really not that main stream. As much as Pokemon gets a bad press its doing wonders for getting Anime noticed, what is it they say about publicity? any is better than none. Hope they're right!

i listed my recommended anime in the primer i wrote, but i'll just put some here for the sake of conversation.
Love Hina - i think this is a hilarious series. some don't think so, some think it's shallow, but i think it's great.
Lain - x-files kind of anime. you really have to pay attention (moreso than eva) because you can get lost easily!
Evangelion - a masterpiece. enough said.
Any anime on Cartoon Network - STAY AWAY! i'm sorry, but in my opinion, dragonball (z) is a terrible series. outlaw star has HORRIBLE dubbing. tenchi muyo! is ok, though, the dubbing isn't half bad. STAY AWAY FROM DUBBED ANIME!!

omg kings hockey game on! gomen, ja ne, minna-san!
              So there's my US$0.02 :-)

one good anime series i'd recommend is rurouni kenshin...
kenshin is a really good series... especially during the shishio saga...
if u get the chance to watch the kenshin OVA do so by all means, although the artwork is a bit different and the feel of the story is a lot more serious than the anime series counterpart, i highly recommend it simply because of its great story line and awesome animation/music...
it is a bit more bloody/violent than the anime series tho...
                "The Mystery of Life"
                Vol. 841, Ch. 26
All life begins with Nu and ends with Nu...
                This is the truth!
                This is my belief!
                ... at least for now.

u know what? the ova sucks...good thing i borrowed it from someone instead of buying it...
u could tell immediately it was drawn but another person
one with not as much experience....
                  hahaa
otherwise, kenshin IS good and funny....at the beginning

Also, Outlaw Star, Tenchi Universe and OF COURSE, Dragon Ball Z are good.

alright i have time right now to continue what i was saying, so...
Love Hina - i think this is a hilarious series. some don't think so, some think it's shallow, but i think it's great.
Lain - x-files kind of anime. you really have to pay attention (moreso than eva) because you can get lost easily!

Vandread - sweet cg scenes with anime. i have the entire first season on cds, and season 2 is coming to TV JAPAN soon. it's kinda like nadesico, if you know anything about that.
Legend of Basara - great storyline and character development. it's a short series, though, weighing in at 13, episodes, but it's still a great series.
Saber Marionnete J - it's funny, good storyline, and yet it's still serious, meaning that it doesn't have childish parts, ya know? the story is this ship had an accident, and crashes on a planet. only the males survived, so they created "marionettes" to, well, procreate with. 3 of them however was different from the others. they developed a personality.
that's all i can think of for now. one more thing.. I HATE DRAGONBALL!!

oh and if you're into manga, check out anything done by CLAMP. i swear to god their artwork is just unbelievable!!
                      So there's my US$0.02 :-)
