    Game: Extermination
    Disks: 1 DVD

&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Im sick of saving the world. In the past couple weeks I have rented several games which all have you saving the world. Ive finally reached a breaking point after beating Extermination, unless the game captivates me on saving the world and not having it be the main plot with nothing to really support it, Im going to vomit. Interesting I should even begin the review with a stupid rant like that, but its true. Can you guess what extermination is about? Here is a hint; it has something to do with saving something. Still stumped? Cmon MCO I know you can get this one
Anyway, in Extermination you and a typical crack team of special forces marines called red light or something like that. Are sent to investigate why communications at a base in Antarctica lost contact. To make a really short and predictable story shorter, one of there planes engine happens to blow up and the entire team is separated after they parachute onto the baseNot to surprisingly everyone on the base have been changed into freakish bio-organic mutants thanks to a disease (no, not the T-Virus) which happened to spread out into the baseYAWN... Now the character (Dennis) must find his team, save the girl in distress (cindy) and destroy the monstersYAWN Lets get started
    GAMEPLAY
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp DeepSpace the company that developed Extermination happen to be part of Whoope Camp who created the awesome Tomba games. Some people at DeepSpace worked on the original Resident Evil and it really shows. In fact there are some things in Extermination that seems could have been applied in later Resident Evil games, which I will get to later. First off Dennis the main character does not move like a walking tank. Instead he has a movement control scheme similar to Syphon Filter. I do have to admit, I really liked Exterminations game-play. You are able to target the creatures similar to resident evil, BUT unlike Resident Evil that you could only aim up or down at zombies, you are now able to aim just about everywhere. And you only lock on to enemies if you are aiming around in a general area where they are. And some of the first baddies happen to be parasites as big as rats that run very fast on walls and cling to ceilings, the control schemes helps a lot here. It would be great if Dennis could actually run shooting his gun, but it seems he has to stay put as he shoots off rounds. You do have a first person view mode that helps, because all of the enemies have weak spots Dennis can jump at certain points but these places are as easy to find as a hotspot in a point and click adventure. Dennis is more nimble than other survival horror good guys, which is good, one of the high points and more original parts of the game. Enemies can infect you in the game, you have to then run to a certain med-bed to cure yourself from infection. If your infection meter gets 100% you will become to mutate, and of course you will die. (Think about that in a resident evil game) Sadly this means there is a lot of backtrackingthere is too much, which is pretty stupid. I really began to hate it.
    GRAPHICS:
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Mediocre can generally sum up the graphics for the game. Also like Syphon Filter, most of the cinematics could have easily used the own in-game graphics as against the pre-rendered ones they use in the cut-scenes. The games graphics seem to be only good with the characters faces and the monsters. Other than that, its generally very dull. The monsters are very well designed and well animated; most of them are very original. There are some graphic-glitches, which are inexcusable, other than that everything is pretty much washed out.
    SOUND:
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp If you want hear some bad voice acting, get this game. Memories of the first Resident Evil occurred as I began listening to the characters talk. After comparing the opening Japanese intro to the English intro you can easily hear that the feeling was totally killed in the final American release. Ambient sounds are great, everything to the cocking of weapons toslime, are well recorded
VIDIOTS TIME TO PICK OUT THE PROBLEMS:
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Extermination has the dumbest localization job for a game ever. Dumb, is not a good word to describe itIts that its weird. To create Dennis to look more American for the US release, they went thru the entire game and changed Denniss hair
    Japanes Version:
    gamespot.com/gamespot/fil...27,00.html

    American Version:
    [gamespot.com/gamespot/fil...48,00.html
(Notice loss of cool Matrix suits...)
Pretty sad huh? I have never seen anyone in America have this piece of shit on there heads. How odd they would go to so much trouble for this, and yet they didnt try getting the mouth animations with the new voice actingYup, its like watching kung-fu theaterDidnt they get this in Onimusha? Never in the game I was never scared, which is lame for a survival horror game. In fact most scary parts were hurt ironically to the English voice acting... There is also some horrible backtracking, which is inexcusable.
    FINAL VERDICT:
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp This is no new Resident Evil, but it is a start. DeepSpace still has some kinks to work out but Im sure Extermination can get better in a sequel or two. This is a good rental.

Aren't we all. I wish there were a game where the entire point is to methodically destroy a peaceful world while an annoyingly righteous band of superheroes does its best to thwart you at every turn. I think THAT would be a system-seller, if anyone ever made it.---
      Fuck the profanity filter.
