Hey, I think someone has mentioned this before, but is there any solution to the problem some people (including me now) have had with the PS2 DVD player with certain DVDs, eg The Matrix? It keeps telling me it can't read the disc at the end of certain scenes and I have to just go back to the main title page and select the scene again. It's a real pain, is there any way to fix it, anyone?Katyjag, a young revolutionary...

hRmZ.. i havent had that problem (and i have PAL PS2 and AUS region Matrix dvd) does it actually stop the movie and bring up the msg? or only when u try certain functions? coz ive had it come up with 'cannot perform this function on this disk' b4.. but not on the Matrix..
Does yours cut off then u have to go back to the title and select scene? MRk MRK n FnK Mz

It has problems, and that's that.
The entire second half of The Seven Samurai is practically unwatchable on the PS2, with the screen freezing every three seconds or so. And it does NOT handle layer changes nicely.
Its a decent player, considering that its primarily a GAMING system, but its still no match for most standalone or PC-based players.

The DVD literally cuts out, it won't move on to the next scene. It only does it between a couple of scenes though (the one where Neo and Morpheus are walking down the street and Neo gets distracted by the woman in the red dress is one of them, I can't remember where else it does this.) I have to go back to the title page and reselect the scene, yeah. Oh well, I hardly ever watch DVDs as it is. Hey, do most DVDs get this problem, or is it just the minority that we're gonna have trouble with?Katyjag, a young revolutionary...

            I havn't played the Matrix on my PS2, so I can't say.
And I do believe that there's the skip on the layer change for any and ALL multi-layered discs.

Really? The only problem I've had with that disc is it skips on the layer change (but only on my PS2, works fine on my others).

That never really happened to me...which I never played a DVD movie on my PS2 yet. Maybe the reason why your PS2 Dvd Player skips and say that it can't read it is probably because your DVD CD has a few scrataches on it and needs cleaning. Or possibly it has a little dust on it. Or maybe it's just that you have some dust inthe system. But, if that's not the problem, then we have some technical problems. But, I don't blame all of that is happening to you. Since the PS2 isn't just a DVD Player, but ALSO a Gaming System. The PS2 probably can only read certian DVD's best and others worst. There could b some DVD's that can't be watched on PS2 systems that well because they were made for a normal DVD and stuff.THAT'S DISGUSTING !! TAKE A SHOWER BABY !!!!

I'm not BLAMING it, since I know it is primarily a gaming system.
But the layer change thing I'm talking about plagued older, and first generation dvd players. All multi-layered discs force the player to switch layers at SOME point, and one good "quality" check is to see if it does it seamlessly or not.
As far as the entire second half of The Seven Samurai skipping every few seconds, its not the dvd, since I've tried it on others. And its not simply how Criterion printed the disc, since I have many multi-layered Criterion discs. No clue on this one...

YA that could be true. There's like tons of different DVD Disc makers out there and all their discs are different. Some with a few layers and others with a lot. There's probably certain kinds of cd's the best work with the PS2 cd-rom drive. But you can't really blame that this is happening cuz there's always some sort of set back in making electronics.THAT'S DISGUSTING !! TAKE A SHOWER BABY !!!!
