I heard somethign from my college professor that hotmail is owned by microsoft and any mail transactions that takes place will become the property of microsoft.
      is this true?

welp, hotmail IS owned by microsoft (that's why you see the msn logo). as far as emails becoming the property of microsft, i don't know about that.
email is really unsecure. if you have POP mail through your ISP, it is sent through a whole bunch of servers. anyone at those servers can go through and see what you sent easily. they can, but they just don't care.

That's what a lot of people forget...nobody would want to read most of the email that gets sent anyway. All most peoples's ever are are just things from friends. No credit card details, no addresses, no phone numbers, nothing you could blackmail anyone with.
