<em>"Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell." </em>

These statements are totally ridiculous on several levels. First, something like a hand cannot "cause you to sin" - your brain causes "sin." Every intelligent person knows that. Therefore, gouging your eye out or cutting your hand off is useless. If you have a problem with "sin" and you are going to amputate something to solve it, you would need to amputate your brain, since that is where all "sin" originates.

But if you think about it further, you realize that Jesus has completely missed the actual remedy. If you are having a problem with unproductive behaviors, what you need to do is either educate or rehabilitate yourself. You would do that by talking with a counselor or seeing a therapist. Amputation is an absurd prescription, as every intelligent person knows.

Jesus is not only a lying here, he dispenses advice that is completely useless and recklessly dangerous as well, bordering lunacy, at best.

speaking in metaphor. If you don't realize that ... you don't know much about the NTestament.

People who try to make sweeping scathing arguments by citing sources they barely comprehend is ... well .. kinda naive, I think.

you think of the Bible as some absolute target.

It's not necessary. The Bible is only a man-written book and reflects the opinions of as many writers as wrote it. It's a valuable reference work ... even if it doesn't convey the "truth." NO written works are ever 100% true; they ALL reflect opinions and perceptions of the writers. Does that mean ALL of them deserve to be attacked and renounced?

You can challenge the beliefs of interpretations that people have etc. but ... there's no point stomping on a mere book.

Funny that a supposed university educator used the wrong word, as well! The correct word is bear, not bare, Mr. University educator.

he especially loves exposed fat men, and also loves bears, penis etc. A bear is apparently a gay hairy, husky guy and you mistook the definition for that.

The bible is not a dictionary, or a science book, it is just a fairy tale (not tail)

As always, you are wrong, in this case, I chose the word that I meant.

What a shame that true christians cant know when they are wrong.

Try again another time, on your own empty website preferably.

PS learn to read a dictionary one day,

your teacher..

I post (about) a bible quote, straight from the gospels too, and you call it "the same tired nonsense" .... how appropriate. <img alt="wink.gif" src="/images/wink.gif" width="14" height="14">
