Two people were killed and one was seriously wounded in a terror attack in the Barkan Industrial Park in the Samaria region of the West Bank on Sunday morning. It’s the first terror attack in the park — which employees both Israelis and Palestinians —and is considered to be an oasis of coexistence where both Israelis and Palestinians come together.
Government approves decision to bring 1,000 of 8,000 Falash Mura to Israel
The cabinet approved on Sunday morning a decision made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last month to bring 1,000 members of the Falash Mura community in Ethiopia to Israel. Those approved to emigrate to Israel from the 8,000 members of the community still in Ethiopia are the parents of children who came to Israel under previous government decisions.
Haiti struck by deadly earthquake
At least 10 people have been killed by an earthquake that struck off the north of Haiti, officials say. The magnitude 5.9 quake was one of the strongest to hit the Caribbean nation since a major tremor in 2010 killed more than 200,000 people. Several buildings are reported to have been destroyed. President Jovenel Moise has urged people to remain calm.
Turkish police suspect Saudi journalist Khashoggi was killed at consulate
Turkish authorities suspect that missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, who disappeared on Tuesday after entering Saudi Arabia’s consulate in Istanbul, was killed inside the consulate, Turkish sources told Middle East Eye and news agencies on Saturday. A senior Turkish police source told MEE that police believed that Khashoggi, a prominent critic of the Saudi government, was “brutally tortured, killed and cut into pieces” inside the consulate after visiting the building on 2 October.
Top US admiral warns of Russian submarine threat
America’s most senior naval officer in Europe, Adm. James Foggo, said Friday that he was “concerned” about some of Russia’s newer and more advanced fleet of submarines. “Russia is not 10 feet tall but they do have assets that keep me vigilant, concerned. Russia has begun efforts to establish a communication channel between Israel and Iran, a senior Russian official told the London newspaper Al-Sharq al-Awsat. The report said that the purpose of the move is to reduce tensions in the region, in view of the transfer of Russian air defense system S-300 to Syria. The Russian’s announced their plan on Thursday.
