Hakan,
About three years those documents appeared in a forum (?) comment string that stated they were from the Chris-Craft factory records and judging by the IBM stock number formatting, I would say they appear to be legitimate. My knowledge of the XK-19 is limited to my readings and firsthand viewings at classic boating events so I can't speak with any great authority or firsthand experience on the best prop for your boat. Trial and error seems to be the best method to finding one that suits the owner.

OK, but the hull card also is a document from Chris Craft and it the should be the way to go then...but it´s interesting to see what improvements another prop dimension could give to the boat..! :)

That's true and as I said, I talked to the owner of the shop and he's been a marine mechanic since the late 60's. He assured me that this is the correct color for a Volvo 270 outdrive.

I asked him the same question since when I bought my XK, the drive had been repainted white. His answer was that over the years, the blue gray had more than likely faded the blue color out of it and looked white. Or when it faded, someone thought it was white and repainted it white.

He is also a certified Volvo Mechanic and claimed that he owned an XK22 at one point too. So I tend to believe him on the color. Short of seeing an all original boat for the early 70's that hasn't had the outdrive repainted, it's hard for the to argue with him over the color.

But 20 odd years ago, I personally stripped a 1973 Renell 23' boat that had a fire inside of it. One of the parts I salvaged was a Volvo 270 drive. It's in my pile of spare parts and it is a blue gray color.

Thanks Ron,
That really sounds realistic and probably what happens to the color during wear and tear....but the drives often look very white to me and there is none original paint that are white for Volvo drives like the 270-290!

Ron is 100% correct about the Volvo outdrive color. No doubt. That’s factory correct for that period .

last step in redo (for now).  Custom Infinity woven flooring for cockpit.   A bit of a modern interpretation, but cool to the touch in Summer and "quiet" to the eyes. image1.jpeg
