All Eagles All The Time 2010/2011 is an Archival/History in Videos and Still captures showing the various stages throughout the year in the lives of the Eagles on the West End Nest on Santa Catalina Island

This is the WE nest

Season 2009/2010 was another successful one for this nest.
The two eggs laid both hatched and K-08 aka Dakota and K-07 aka Aquila both successfully fledged in July 2010.

Unfortunately Aquila was lost too soon.

Please check out the Class of 2010 to enjoy last season's memories of 'Nestorations to Fledging'.

The adult eagles .. Wray and K-01 .. are hopefully enjoying some well deserved R & R before returning to commence restorations ... aka Nestorations by the A-49 Cruzers ... getting ready for the eggs that could be laid in February/March.

The Videos/Stills and Screen Captures .. that will eventually be posted here on this thread .. have been selected ... as their favourites ... by the members who have captured them on Nest Watch.
You can see more videos and still pictures ... at a later date ... by visiting the Daily Observations thread. Also known as Nest Watch

We ask you NOT to post comments in this thread. VIEWING ONLY PLEASE! This will enable faster viewing by Dr. Peter Sharpe and the IWS Team ... for record purposes .... and also for Members and visitors to the forum.

As you scroll through the pages of this thread you may be confused as to who is actually the male of the nest!

This period is classed as the 'off season' .. but there was a lot of drama on this nest from September 2010 until January 2011.

So here is a synopsis of the events:

August 23, 2010 was the last time we saw K-01 on the nest.

Wray visited on September 12 and 13, 2010 ... alone.

K-51 arrived on September 14th. At first Wray was very defensive and would fly in to chase him off.

But K-51 was persistent ... he had found a nest ... and a lone female ... what more could a young male ask for?

So they did the timeshare thing ... he would come and then leave ... then Wray would come and leave.

He started to rearrange the nest ... pulling the sticks/branches apart ... doing it HIS way.

On September 21st they had their first meeting ... as far as we know ... ON the nest.

But it wasn't until September 23rd that they appeared to be a pair. They started to follow each other to the nest.

In October K-51 started to make advances towards Wray ... and she was giving him mixed messages. Maybe it was too soon .. maybe he was too big/heavy for her .. he was certainly inexperienced ... but they continued to stay together ... and by January 2011 Wray had him trained with the fish deliveries ... and it looked like the bonding was more successful.

Now ... on January 13th ... along comes K-01. Will we go through all this again?

So far neither Wray .. or K-51 .. have been back to the nest ... and this must confuse K-01.

Are they meeting OFF the nest?

The past few days prior to K-01's return the two were certainly in defense mode. Unsure whether Wray recognizes her previous mate now ... he has certainly beefed up since we last saw him.

The saga continues ....

The WE saga has definitely been resolved!

Wray and K-01 were observed together on the nest early Sunday morning .. January 23, 2011.

They bonded on the nest at 7:18 a.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011.

Yes ... things are back to normal ... All's well again at West End!

We still have no idea where K-51 is .. hopefully he has learnt his lessons well from Wray and is now searching for his own 'Miss Right' .. and the IWS Crew will spot him on their travels and report his whereabouts on their Updates.

INTRUDER ON THE NEST!

September 14, 2010

8:31am - Wray arrived in defense mode

After a few minutes she began a long vigil on her rock - 8:49am

9:17am - Wray was relaxed and preening, then suddenly she was startled by a low fly-over...

maybe the mystery eagle before it made its appearance on the nest?

9:23am - Wray remained on alert--then suddenly hopped onto her rock and left at 9:25am

Then the other eagle immediately showed up on the nest only to be quickly dismissed by Wray (see her in the air) - 9:25-26am
