Nest Watch ? Tuesday, February 13, 2018

February 13th, 2018, 10:44 am #1

PLEASE READ

Egg...citing News.

The FP nest of...A-64/m & A-49/f...has TWO eggs...laid February 9th & February 12th.

The SC nest of...A-40/m & A-48/f...has THREE eggs...laid February 2nd, February 5th & February 8th.

The WE nest of...K-01/m & K-91/f...has TWO eggs...laid February 8th & February 11th.

The adults will be taking turns incubating them and normally during this time, or at a switch, the eggs will also be rolled. This is to prevent the developing embryos/chicks from sticking to the inside of the shells.

While IWS is interested in the above information, and would be especially interested in knowing if an adult leaves the nest and the eggs are uncovered for a while, Dr. Sharpe has indicated in the past that he also wants us to simply enjoy the experience of watching all the happenings on the nests and learn more about these magnificent birds through the wonder of the Nest Cams.

Therefore, please continue to post observations in the usual way, but should you observe a parent switch or notice that the adult is not on the nest, it would be helpful to all of us if the time(s) could also be noted/posted...along with whatever else you observe happening on the nest at that time.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”
Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011 wrote:We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.
Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011 wrote:Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with even if it is a bird or unidentified, so that we can spot them more easily.
To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011 wrote:We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.
Thank you!

SC -

A-48 & A-40 have had quite a night on the nest.
A-40 flew in shortly after midnight to chase off a mouse & stayed the rest of the night.
Several wing slaps, a stare down, a very tender moment, and a close call for the mouse, and he's still there.
Here's a short video of some of the highlights.

SC - Catch Me If You Can

Almost got it that time!
