Two eggs were laid in February .. but one was laid outside of the bowl .. K-82 eventually managed to get it into the bowl to incubate it with the first one .. but on March 5th there was only one egg visible. The observers were hoping that the other was still in the bowl & viable.

However ... only one egg successfully hatched.

Willows Anchorage - Santa Cruz Island

A-45/male & A-51/female

.............
View of their territory to the east.

(Click on thumbnail to see full size)

In January & February A-45 and A-51 were seen together quite a lot ... but their nest was eluding the IWS Crew ... who were fairly confident the pair had one somewhere along roughly 8 miles of rugged partially-inaccessible coastline.

During March, April and May the search continued to find their nest ... but this pair were really elusive and it wasn't until June that Helen was lucky to be in the right area of their territory ... at the right time ... and was rewarded with an entire day of watching both of them perching and fishing.

Maybe next year their nest will be discovered. :X:
