As an aside, Mojo is already 2-1-3 for New Jersey (Caps are gonna miss him before this season is over)...

Grubauer 3-0 against Tampa, Vasilevsky 0-3 against Caps...

From the NHL preview: Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin will attempt to become the first NHL player with a hat trick in three consecutive games when the Washington Capitals play the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Monday.

Ovechkin scored three times against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday and had four goals against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

The record for goals by one player through the first three games of the season is nine, by Reg Noble of the Toronto Arenas and Joe Malone of the Montreal Canadiens in 1917-18, the first season of the NHL.

Ovechkin has one hat trick against the Lightning, a four-goal game Dec. 10, 2013. He has scored two goals in a game against the Lightning on eight other occasions.

The Lightning have allowed eight goals on 84 shots in its first two games.

game on!

15:28 left 1st, Ness in the box for a crosscheck... it's been pretty basic for both teams so far...

good kill by the PK, 10/10 on the season now...

12:34 left 1st, TV timeout.

And then a great shift by Eller/Connolly to make the Bolts ice it for the 5th (6th?) time...

8:35 left, Grubauer covers and a timeout.

Pretty methodical both ways to this point, Caps under a little pressure from 7:15 to 6:58 when they ice it... Caps get a 4 on 1 break, but Chorney turns it over... of course, TBL comes back down... no goal, but Ness in the box again for a hook...

on the PP, great pass to Stamkos for a breakaway, but juuuuust offside... killed again...

Caps come down... Bura passes rinkwide to...

Backstrom! 1-0 Caps at 3:18 left 1st!

And now Caps on the PP!

Oshie was also on the way. I saw that on the replay, Joe and Craig didn't. The goal was attributed to Oshie in the rink.

A replay shows the puck was deflected, and the goal announced as Oshie's- we shall see...

2-0 Caps, end 1st. Very good road period, except for the penalties.

Ovechkin... 0 SOGs in the 1st, 9 for the team as a whole. He should be 0-2-2 so far, if guys (Kuz, Chorney) could handle his great passes.

Ok, I've decided I'm good through 2, but who knows? An Ovie hattie early on could keep me up a little longer.

I'll stop here, I've seen the highlights of the first period.

Great news for MoJo/MarJo, by the way. He was one of my favourite Caps. It was just not possible to keep him financially, alas.

The team looks great right now, though.

We'll see who has to sit in two games, either Chiasson or Walker, I guess. These guys have to show something tonight, especially Chiasson. And Vrana may finally be able to finish one. He doesn't need to score goals, though; he's quietly amassing assists. He's on pace for 123 points, after all (Ovechkin and Kuznetsov for 287).

Caps have had good chances in the first 5:00- Eller misses the net on a 2 on 1 break, Connolly agood chance, then Burakovsky... they get running around, though, and Killorn puts the Bolts on the board.

2-1 with 14:32 left 2nd.

13:33 left Grubauer under fire again, but he stops this one by Stamkos. TV timeout. I've just made a tea, so when it's done, I'm done.

12:47, Caps to the PP- bench minor, faceoff violation... pass, pass, pass, Oshie misses... another great tic tac toe pass to...

Oshie!!! 3-1 Caps at 12:11 left 2nd.

Now Grubauer a great save, Caps come down and Walker with a really good chance... 8:36, Bolts are offside and a timeout is called...

7:59, two fights break out- first one is Connolly/Girardi, as that one started play continued and Orpik got flattened by Paquette and got up on fire...

Caps end up with a PP out of it, Girardi getting an extra crosscheck penalty, all the others 2:00 roughing...

nothing on the first half, couple semi decent chances... nothing, ans TBL as they go to full strength almost pokes one past Grubauer... the net's off, TV timeout.

5:12 Caps get called for a slash, it doesn't take effect until 4:42- CL griping about how iffy the call is...

Caps with good work finally clear, and at :42 left PP TBL is offside... killed, and as it ends Kuz and Beagle on a 2 on 1... pass is just out of Beagle's reach...

Bolts come down and Kunitz cuts it to 3-2.

Orlov catches a high stick, no call... at :13.9, Caps get the PP on a slash...

3-2 Caps end 2nd, about 1:46 of PP to start the 3rd.

I'm out.

Kucherov tied the game in the third, on a 1-on-1 with Chorney.

In overtime, beautiful shot by Kucherov, deflected in front by Point. Grubauer had no chance. He was also screened by Carlson.

I think Holtby would have stopped Killorn's shot on the first goal, though. Grubauer is clearly #2 (Holtby is #1 in the league, anyway).

On the goal by Kunitz, Chorney left Kuznetsov alone in front of the net battling with Kunitz. Ness was also away, but he was busy with a guy. Chorney followed him for no reason at all. He was totally useless on that play, and Kuznetsov did not know how to prevent Kunitz from redirecting a shot.

I think when Wilson is back, they will possibly send Vrana down and bring Bowey back. Not very nice for Vrana, who is doing well (-2 in this game, though, like Ovechkin and Kuznetsov), but he is waiver exempt and the Caps have less than $30,000 of cap space. There is no other solution, anyway. Placing Chiasson, Walker, Graovac or Smith-Pelly on waivers would not free enough space to recall Bowey (not to mention that it would be completely dumb).

Djoos is in the roster, but they are supposed to fix his deficiencies at practice before they let him play, I guess. Maybe Ness-Carlson and Orpik-Djoos would work, though.
