Erskine hit Ritola in the face with his stick, it seems. Tampa on the PP. 2 minutes. Announcers say it could have easily been 4.

Caps get the first two shots on this Lightning PP.

Killed. Both teams had some pretty good chances on this penalty, it went from end to end.

And Laich scores!!! 2-0. On the rebound, after Erskine hit Mike Smith's chest with a good shot.

Well, no... It was hard to follow Kolbe correcting himself while typing... It's actually Erskine, assisted by Fahey and Laich.

And now Semin!!! One-timer. 3-0 Caps. I suspect Smith won't stay that long. They say he had no chance on this one, though.

Assist: Johansson, his second tonight. It's his first NHL assists.

Geez, you could see this one coming! "Tic-tac-toe between the big guys", and Semin scores again, assisted by Backstrom and Ovechkin. 4-0 Caps!

3 goals on 5 shots for the Caps, Smith is out.

Caps on the PP.

Delayed penalty against Tampa, Caps with the extra attacker but the Bolts touch the puck. Caps will have a two-man advantage for 36 seconds.

AND SEMIN SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES!!!!! Hat-trick, 6th of his career and 3rd of the season. And a natural one, in less than 5 minutes.

It's 5-0 Caps. Assists by same guys as previous goal, in same order: Backstrom and Ovechkin.

His previous hat-trick was also against the Bolts, 16 days ago.

He may not be done tonight, though. Plenty of time left (25:12). Varlamov only had to face 8 shots so far, while Tampa's goalies faced 23.

Now it's Tampa that will enjoy 1:11 of 5-on-3 hockey. Let's see what they do.

Hi there! I left at 1-0 and the Caps with :37 left on the PP, got home to 4-0 and turned it on just in time for the hat trick. When this team wants to be, they are SCARY good... killed this one off, and with 3 SOGs on it TB is up to 11 for the game...

Varlamov with two good saves, first penalty killed.

Same for second one. Tampa's players must be really upset. Nothing is going their way.

Hi, Roger!

"When this team wants to be, they are SCARY good." They did sound like this in the second period.

Even from the go, really- I noted before there was any score that Fahey was playing like he belongs here, and that Johansson was skating well. The first goal was beautiful, just an easy faceoff win by MJ and a tap back to where Carlson could come in on it and tee it up.

Another pretty easy kill for the Caps... Ovechkin with only 1 SOG tonight, but they just showed the "Ovechcam", and he's been all over the ice, raising havoc.

The only question now is do they finish off the 60 minute game, or rest on their laurels the last 10:00.

Hendricks got the only assist on that, but I'll tell you ovechkin set the whole thing up. Nice to see him skating well again.

Yes. Let's hope they can do something like that (or even half as good) in the playoffs, hehe.

EDIT: Thanks, Roger. Good night to you too.
