He was a colleague of mine. I think he's working in China now. But he'd be a great source for a story like this.

I'll see if I can contact him.

His book on this subject is an academic work, so not too popular.

It's also 20 years old now. Time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana.

This week's premium episode takes a deep dive into Gab.ai, the newly preeminent "free speech" platform on the web.

If you paid attention during Occupy, and if you were even remotely conscious during the 2016 elections, you probably know that there's been an explosion of popularity of socialism in America. No, not communism. No, not anarchism. Socialism. Particularly something known as Democratic Socialism. Crunch Dog and Larry discovered that a group known as the Democratic Socialists of America had a chapter two towns over from them, so they had to check it out. Stephen and Joe graciously came to the porch to talk to use about it. Careful, there may be a ghost in here.

The Marvel / Northrop Grumman crossover came and went in the blink of an eye, but it left a bit of a foul taste in all of our mouths. Crunch Dog, Larry, and returning guest Felonius Thunk dive into the topic of military recruitment, and others, in episode 16, part 1. Part 2 can be found on http://patreon.com/wikileaksonweed

I worked on the Army Air Force Joint Strategic Target Acquisition Radar System (Joint STARS/JS) and the lead contractor was Northrup Grumman.  In short it distributes counts of ground vehicles from a radar on a 707 that is 400 miles away and can be programmed to look for any shape.  I'd say cones are a good guess for today.  The geeks were amazingly fast at software engineering problem solving.

Of the 15 707C in service I only know where 6 are located currently,  The program has cost about $20 billion and could save a 20 gawd zillion, zillion, zillion dollar Earth from being reduced to rubble.

In this thumbnail minute video the next generation JS is shown in the last clip - a corporate jet.   This program moved very fast 25 years ago.

It would make an excellent Marvel game.

Ok, yeah that's pretty cool. Thanks for sharing that. I guess kind of hinted in that in the episode. The tech at this point isn't very far from what you see in the Avengers, especially the Iron Man stuff.

On a personal note, I used to work for a different defense contractor. It remains one of the best jobs I ever had, despite whatever moral overlay was put on top of it (it was kind of different every day).

In an effort to ramp up audience participation, we introduce a new segment into our show: Free Speech. It's become such a complex and hot button issue in our society. It needs to be examined, and examined well, so we're gonna try.

Also, we're working on ANOTHER segment called "Catching Up," where we circle back to stories that have fallen out of the public eye. We would love your ideas. Fill in the blank: Whatever happened to _______? For example, next week we have Brock Turner.
