Paprika Grill is re-locating to Salem and not Gloucester.

Bummer.

Well that's too bad for us, but hopefully will be good for them.

Not much info on the FB page, no opening date, but it is Eric (Passports) Lorden's place and it is Mexican.

Although it sucks to see him go, I think his new location in Salem is ideal. Charter Street is basically right in the middle of everything.

Jasmine Ocean has reopened due to a constraining liquor license. Like this year they’ll close 1/15/19 and reopen 4/1/19.

The owner is very accomadating - booths are back - 50/50 chairs and booth seating. TVs are still not in the main room but if popular the owner may add one on the far back wall.

A waitress on tonight has been at that location for 30+ years.

It has fairly late hours, a rarity in this town —

"Constrained Liqour License" - do you mean a Seasonal License? Aren't those limited wine and beer?

The late hours are a god-send, indeed - but TVs? Ugh.

They probably have a full liquor license but seasonal.  I think like Captain Carlos.

Yes, I meant the constraint of a seasonal liquor license - which is based on a population formula by the Commonwealth and given to the licensing board.

BI - as far as adding a TV - go there and tell the owner your opinion.  At the moment there is no TV in the main room.  Also addded in the main room are large framed photos of Gloucester.

if we get lucky they will put the tv's back in the main room or even better a jukebox. I miss the places that had the jukebox right at the table I would love to see them make a comeback.

An all American diner.
- Malts
- Saddle shoes
- No frills burger.
- Hotdog lubed w/burger grease.
- French fries - thick, tasty spud.
- Giggling girls in one corner.
- Nerds in the other corner.
- Cool guys at the cool booth

AND

A JUKEBOX (50¢ a play; three plays for a dollar).

Sock-hops if it’s slow after 8.

================

The story:

It was late spring 1955 when we decided to give my mom a break from the kitchen and as a family went to Sammy’s Inferno to pick up a pizza.

My brother and I went in with my Dad to order the takeout pizza while my sister and pregnant mom sat in the car. - then smash - our car was totaled by a drag racer.

So, to calm things down I played the jukebox for my younger brother. I was just old enough to read “Davy Crockett’s” and played it with one of three dimes I had (to my name).

Okay, 3 plays for a quarter but all I has was three dimes. But I used all three playing the same song over and over again. A dime then is worth 93¢ today.

The three of us kids were all under ten.

I vaguely remember the ambulance but I know my mom refused to go to the hospital. My dad didn’t press wreckless driving charges either - we “upgraded from a 1950 Studebacker (I called a stupid-baker) to a 1949 two tone beige/brown Chevrolet.

No doubt the next morning my mom was up at 5:30AM in the kitchen sipping her only cup of coffee - black. Ready for us kids.

I’m sure my older sister did an eye-roll or two when I told her I played Davy Crockett three times in a row. I kinda remember a policeman at the pizzeria taking his report from witnesses - didn’t see any eye-roll from him when I played the juke.

Love the jukebox at the table thing!!  For me, it was the Pleasant Cafe in Roslindale.  As a kid, I took the T with my gram for a pizza.  As a teen, it's where we went.  As adults, it's where we ordered pizza (and still do) for family gatherings.  To this day, little has changed - https://www.facebook.com/pleasantcafe/.

When I worked at Stone & Webster Engineering I knew a gal in the late 70s from Rosildale. Her name (nickname?) was Roz.

She’d be in her 60s now. Dressed beautifully. Reminded me of Isabella Rossellini.

Yes, a few times. It's very good. THIS would be a good addition to Gloucester.

Papi's Fried Chicken aka PFC is no more. It is now a "Chicken and Kebab" joint with the Grand Opening happening today. Didn't catch the new name as I was driving by.

Are they really calling it "kebob"?  I hope the cooking is better than their spelling...

Probably just a spelling error on my part.
