Re: The economic effect of sea rise and future coastal flooding on Gloucester.

Yes, I had seen some of that information several months ago.  That information is geophysical and does not address the social and economic impact or how it will be dealt with bay the city.

The economic effect of sea rise and future coastal flooding on Gloucester.

So if and when it happens:  A significant of number of waterfront or lowland properties that pay significant taxes will:  1. Have difficulty being bought and sold because mortgages or flood insurance will not be available. 2. In extreme situations this  could cause people to throw their keys on the ...

Re: Oh just leave the bowling alley alone

Well, I believe there was an OD death in the bathroom  last year....not that that is relevant at all. People who buy businesses invest considerable sums and they need to make their money back and then a profit so let them do as they wish...not a big deal.

Real estate tip of the week: BUy houses with lots of parking! William I don't get what you are saying about the elderly and groceries and all that.  We have a very old, congested and tightly built downtown with lots of ancient houses with more and more apartments...and more and more cars. The parki...

"I know I would not buy a house with no parking..."  Egads... Impressive standards! But if you were not a person of means, you might have to  rent  a place with no parking !!!  Can you imagine how icky that would be, WIlliam? I did for many years when I lived in Cambridge. It was much easier in the...

Re: flooding

I wonder  what the percentage of houses in Gloucester is that do not have on site parking? Not having it decreases the selling price and I would think in this day and age when a lot of families commute to work and have two cars or kids that this would eliminate upwardly mobile families from moving h...

Re: flooding

Cities become monsters without convenience and livability. Not that this would happen here but I have just finished listening to an NPR program by the author of "If Venice Dies" which is an explanation and a critique of how people are making cities less livable do to overbuilding. The problem is oft...

Re: flooding

There should be some sort of program in every neighborhood that somehow eventually finds a way to buy a few properties here and there and teardown what is there and make resident parking, I would go nuts having to move my car or jockey for a parking space God knows where.

The city is allowing citizens to use public property for snow emergency parking at their discretion.  It is not mandatory —- only that you remove your vehicles from the street.  It is always up to vehicle owners to find legal off street parking during snow emergencies and to evaluate those spaces f...

Re: flooding

To have house or car damage can be very trying for a homeowner...or a business for that matter. I would think that most people simply cannot afford to just pay up without a large impact on their finances. This can "snowball" into a detrimental effect on the local economy.

What do insurance companies say about flooding and storms? Is it an
"act of God" and they do not pay? All those cars ruined. Low lying house a mess.

I am entirely bored with it already. It is New England and we have storms every year and every year the HYPE gets bigger and bigger.

Perhaps this time it will live up to it's billing.

Re: Maura Healey killed the gas pipeline and now we suffer.

Your all-or-nothing stance will not be part of the future of energy production and storage, William...any more than simply finding sources to support your biases. (That Forbes opinion piece was written in 2015 by an oil-groupie, btw.) And your subsidies meme is really quite irrelevant - unless you ...

Re: Maura Healey killed the gas pipeline and now we suffer.

ONE THIRD of Texas’s energy needs are supplied by wind turbines.  ONE THIRD. A wind turbine farm 2-3MWe each, spans about 100 miles west of Abileen TX with clusters of farms possibly with 1000 wind turbines. Solar run parallel with peak demand - during the 9-5 workday. The more solar is in the grid...

CSO William - I would like to nominate Elon Musk as assistant CSO.  He’ll solve the battery problem and report back to you when done. Elon IMO is getting to be a modern Einstein. I am not betting but I think the odds favor a bankrupt Tesla in the not to distant future. As for the power wall, forget...
