At-large Chamber debate - my recap on the MJ retail sales question:

Orlando:  putting it on the State to get their act together; need to consider zoning; the people spoke, we need to listen to our constituents.

O'Hara:  personally against but the people spoke; waiting for the State; concerned about enforcement and the cost to the City for police training.

Cox:  Not sure people knew what they were voting for on the ballot initiative; okay with personal use, sales - not so much; also concerned about cost to the City ; expects a ballot question re: retail sales.

Ciolino:  predicts a ballot question.  The max for the City is 4 retail, expects a ballot question that asks, "4, 3, 2, 1 or 0."

Lundberg:  waiting for State feedback, concerned about Washington Street location.

Holgrem:  concerned about edibles; middle school education; zoning; would like to make MJ establishments look more like liquor stores.

I direct this to every candidate:  are you kidding me?

One is ok, one is not:

No kidding.

I was recently in Portland, Oregon. I walked past several dispensaries in my ramblings. They were far more subdued than you typical package store.

If you weren't paying attention you wouldn't even notice them.

Get a grip, folks.

This all reminds me about people losing their minds over same sex marriage becoming legal 13 years ago....how we were all going to hell, how heterosexual marriage would be finished (as if it wasn't buggering itself up enough, already), how "innocent childhood" would be destroyed...and kids of same sex unions be "co-opted" into the "lifestyle".  Oh, and did any of you see the movie, 'Loving'?

"Concern for police training"?!?!  - Really? - training for what, exactly?!

I am not in favor of alcohol, tobacco or marijuana products which target children.  These include flavored alcohols, e-cigs and marijuana edibles that look like children's candy.  These are all heavily marketed towards young, first time users.  They can be so easily obtained by young users. This is just plain wrong.

Edibles aren't cheap. People aren't just going to be handing them out to little kids. Get a grip and unclutch your pearls.

If city government wants to ban sales here, they can only do it through the ballot since Gloucester voted in favor of  the state ballot question.

That's exactly what my relatives said about Denver and Boulder. Both the medical and recreational dispensaries were very nondescript and you don't really even notice them.

Rockport still prohibits alcohol retail sales, let Rockport open pot shops not Gloucester! What's fair is fair!

Are you prohibitionists aware of your rampant hypocrisy? Would you please get a grip?

Mine is family, photography, football and the occasional quip that goes unnoticed.

Don't know who's dumber here. The cops who are supposed to be trained for this kind of thing or the wannabe hero insurance agent.

Some hibiscus leaves resemble pot leaves, but, seriously?

A knock and talk would have been more polite than showing up heavily armed on just a tip. It's not he first time I've heard of something like this either...Okra looks like pot too! Legalize it already!!

This whole issue is another beachhead upon which right wing or reactionary cock-heads who are trying desperately to keep control of a society and culture that are evolving beyond their comprehension will eventually die.

Oh, lord - I read the hibiscus story today and that was just such a big wtf.

So a medical marijuana dispensary is being proposed for Newbury St. in Boston.  Let that sink in for a minute and don't try to stifle the lols.

I think Oliver Curme is awesome.  He is being vilified in the press, who apparently (along with the zoning board) didn't take the time to discover that he had previously written to his neighborhood group in support of the facility and don't realize that he is totally ridiculing his neighbors who oppose the dispensary.

The best comment - personal use ok but not sales. So where would one get a couple tasty buds?
Parents think nothing of leaving a liquor cabinet or shelf unlocked full of booze that could actually kill a child but they're worried that they might leave out some gummy bears that a kid could grab?
