Dunkin Donuts at the Mac Bell mall is open at the moment (a little after five thirty am). I talked to a CATA bus driver there and they are going to run until it gets too messy, probably mid morning. Some convenience stores are open. Everything else, including George's, is closed. I suppose many like George's find it hard to operate without on street parking.

I'm hearing a house collapsed near Goose Cove, man trapped at Beacon Marine, All of Commercial St under water and is a river.

High School lot inundated, all cars likely a total loss as water up to windows. Front lot near field. Assuming canal overflowed banks. Bad!

My power went out about 3:00 p.m.  Got a generator going.  It's a small outage area with a big problem - tree came down and brought all kinds of wires with it.  Large outage area in the northern part of the island:

Gloucester’s Chief Administrative Officer: “Shelter in Place” – Storm Causes Significant Damage Throughout City – High School Parking Lot Underwater; Numerous Cars Damaged; Homes Flooded; Sporadic Power Outages

Posted on January 4, 2018 by Rick |

GLOUCESTER – (Radio interview)  As of 4:45 p.m., the city of Gloucester has had significant flood damage due to the storm surge associated with the Thursday blizzard,  More than a foot of snow has been dumped on the city, with high winds and higher wind gusts, but the major damage is due to the flooding.  The Blynman Canal overflowed during the noon high tide, burying dozens of cars parked at Gloucester High School.  One eyewitness described Newell Stadium as being under 3 to 4 feet of sea water.

In the radio interview below, Gloucester’s Chief Administrative Officer, Jim Destino, updates the storm situation.
