Well, Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore ...

Weirdly, I was having coffee and, as usual, was checking the morning news, Twitter, the board, etc.  at the exact time that the board was migrated.  Looked at the Yuku board, read the headlines on my Google news feed, scanned Twitter, clicked back on the board and bam, that just happened.  I reluctantly passed on my morning workout to work on the board.  Sacrifices ... :-)

Got rid of some old, little-used forums; deleted all the posts about Yuku in the Board Help and Practice forum and moved the forum to the Home Port page for better visibility.  Spent too much time trying to get rid of the blank forum section at the top of the Home Port page.  I think its purpose is to hold the Calendar forum that was migrated with the Yuku board.  The Calendar is not supported by phpBB and dang if I can't delete that blank section.  Unimportant in the whole scheme of things, but it annoys me, lol.

I got a little click happy and accidentally deleted my previous thread about the new board.

Your Yuku username and password should work.  If you have a problem logging in, email me at capeannweb@yahoo.com.

If there are spaces in your username, you must use spaces to log in - that was not necessary in Yuku.

Some navigating help:

Under the banner - "Forums" and "Discussions"

"Forums" is the forum list.  "Discussions" will show the last post in every thread from all forums.

Posting:  in each post there is a "Reply" icon.  This is actually the "Quote" function - using that to reply will quote the post you click from.

The default posting box is a "Quick Reply" with no editing options.  Click on "Full Editor and Preview" to access full editor mode.

Subscribing/Reply Notifications - annoyingly, receiving email notifications about replies to a thread that you've posted in is set as the default.  In Quick Reply, there is a wrench icon under the posting box - you have to click "unsubscribe topic" to cancel notifications.  In the Full Editor, the same option to cancel a notification is available under the "options" tab.  You can permanently change those settings in your user control panel (Drop down menu on top right of the board once you are logged in, under Board Preferences, edit notification options.)

Images can be added using the Attachments option in Full Editor mode.  Apparently other documents, such as pdf files can be attached as well.  I haven't tested that out, but that will be cool if it works.  I believe that just posting the url for a YouTube video will embed the video.  Haven't tried that yet, either, lol.  You can practice those things in the Board Help forum.

Missing  (and much requested in the Migration Support Forum):  A "Cancel" button in the posting screen.  I've used the browser "back" button or just click the topic title above the posts.

Also missing and much requested is the ability to view previous posts while composing a reply in Full Editor mode.  And the editing options bar is not fixed in the posting screen so that in a longer post, the bar is not in view.

Ads:  I think that right now ads are visible to guests and hidden from registered users when they are logged in?  Our already-paid-for ad-free views credit will be transferred in a bit.  I'll sort out the future status of ads ... oh, in the future.  I'm pretty okay with ads being visible to guests but not registered users as a way to keep down the cost of an ad-free experience, if it shakes out to be more affordable that way.

The board uses the time on your device (computer, phone, etc.).  Military time is the default and I can't change it for the board. Users can change the date and time format via their user control panel, board preferences, edit global settings.

Post questions and suggestions (colors, readability, etc.) here and use the Board Help forum to practice posting pics, documents, etc.

Wonderfullly clear instructions.  You get lots and lots of brownie points at the pearly gates for this, so you can afford to live it up a little!

The forum host gets the money.  It is now Tapatalk - used to be Yuku.  The forum hosting is free, with ads.  Boards can pay a hosting fee for an ad-free experience.  The cost of being ad-free is based on the number of views.  With Yuku, individual board members could make a donation directly to Yuku to keep a specific board ad-free.  That has worked well here for all these years thanks to regular contributions by a number of members.  I would give a shout-out when the funds were low and members stepped up.

Tapatalk has stated that they are working on a similar feature - donations by members directly to a specific Tapatalk board.  We have a hefty number of ad-free views left in our Yuku account, which will be transferred to the Tapatalk board, so we will have time to sort it out.

I could host a forum myself with a web host for a fee that might be less than a hosted forum charges.  Lots of work and when there is a server or software problem, I'd have to deal with it, instead of just going outside when Yuku got Kuku, lol.

I also could have shopped around for a host, but staying with Tapatalk, which merged/took over/bought out or something with Yuku (Crowdgather), allows us to keep our data/ history and eliminates the need for users to re-register - something that, to me anyway, has some value.

Call me crazy, but I don't use an ad-blocker.  I get that it costs $ to run a site and the use of ad-blockers is a major cause of sites, especially news sites, going to subscription or just plain folding.

The "full editor" successfully posted a pic from my iphones photos but there's something from my phone's screen also shown with Kelly's photo under "---" thread.

I'll mostly be using mobile and not desktop. Navigating via mobile is different. Can I save username/pw?

So far. So good.

I, too, mostly use my phone. I must say that the mobile experience is better.

One odd thing I noticed.  It added a couple people to my block list.  One I probably put there myself long ago when we had some scary folks (not anyone who posts here anymore) but the other is someone I never would block and seems to be the next person in the alphabet of CAO people.  I just cleared out both from the settings and all seems visible now.  I found out because it asked me if I wanted to view a post that I had asked not to see.

These stupid autoplaying video ads have to go.

I'm reading a posting, and then the window bumps to the bottom. Makes it impossible to read or post. And they come often.

Like Cathy, I'm not an ad-blocker, but this experience may push me over to the dark side.

Note to "gator" - I noticed that your username is showing with the .capeannonline extension and that there seemed to be some crossed wires with another gator from a different board.  You will probably have to use the extension (log in as gator.capeannonline) to be certain that you are logging in with the correct account.  Tapatalk is experimenting with global log-ins (a single log-in to access all tapatalk boards) and I have a feeling that was going on with that log-in mix up.  Email me if you have any problems.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't even mind simple banner ads at the top and bottom of a forum, but ads inside topics, between posts, is just ugh.  I made a follow-up request in the support forum and sent an email to support to give them a little nudge about transferring our remaining ad-free views.  It seems that a large number of boards were migrated at the same time on Friday which created a lot of issues for the support team - many of which are really more important than our ad issue - so I'm not too hopeful about getting a timely response.

I have never blocked anyone, ever, yet I had 3 totally random "foes" (what a silly word to use) listed in my User Control Panel.  Totally random.  Like Karly, I only thought to look there after a post showed as blocked.

I got rid of the darn blank forum space at the top of Home Port.  It took a heck of a lot of sleuthing to figure it out.  It was one crazy migration glitch.

FYI:  Image folders and PMs are expected to be migrated after all boards have been migrated.  I discovered that you can still access them by logging in at yuku.com.  There is a menu bar from which you can access your inbox and gallery.  If there are any images stored in your YUKU account or PMs that are important to you, you might want to grab them - just in case.

I just fixed one funny setting, at least I hope I did, that was obviously a migration glitch - I discovered that any registered user could add themselves to the Administrator or Moderator group.  Oh, Lordy, lol ...

Oh, and I don't know why some avatars were migrated and others were not.  I will look around the support board for info, although avatars are kind of low on my priority list, lol.

I think I can add some code to make them square, if that matters to anyone.

I am glad you confirmed the randomly created foes, Cathy!  I do not remember blocking anyone ever either, but one blast from the past was one I probably at least thought about so I thought maybe I did :-)  The other is someone I never ever would have blocked...one of my favorite posters here.   So now I think they were both randomly created and not an alphabet thing.  So if anyone else is getting a message to view a hidden post, check your friends and foes list...you might have some randomly added in there.

I deleted the other gator.something from this board so you should be able to log in with just gator.  If I totally mucked it up and you can't log in, send me an email.

Our ad-free credits have been applied to the new board account but, for now at least, only registered members who are logged in will have ad-free status - guests will still see ads.  That's fair enough - only registered members have donated to the ad-free status.  Tapatalk has taken over multiple forum providers that had differing ad removal/payment options and they are trying to accommodate those boards that have different kinds of ad-free credits from their previous hosts while incorporating them into their current system.
