Tapatalk is our message board/forum hosting service. They have pretty much taken over most free forum hosting services, each with their own format and registration and they have created a uniform/global login and registration system.
I logged out and when I went to log in again, I got a "log in with or sign up for" a Tapatalk ID screen. A Tapatalk ID would give you access to all forums on TT with a single login - much like the Yuku system. TT is pretty much geared to mobile users and not desktop dinosaurs like myself - the way of the world these days, lol.
I'm not interested in a Tapatalk ID (if you want to keep your current username for this board, there is no guarantee that it would be available with a TT global registration) and it is not required to log in here for previously registered members - but the log in process does require an extra step for current members to log in to the board. Previously registered members can "click here" to get a second screen which will log you in to just this board with your current username and password.
I tried to register a new account to see what the process is like. You have the option to register with your FB or Google account or use your email - options that seem to be becoming a standard registration option on all kinds of sites that require any kind of registration. Personally, I don't ever use FB or Google to register anywhere. I did not complete the email registration process because I couldn't pass the damn photo captcha. I've encountered that captcha method elsewhere and I do appreciate the need for anti-spam measures, but that picture thing is just so annoying.
Anyhow, if you have a problem with logging in or registering, email me at email@example.com
Overall, I like the new format. There was a period of too many "502" error messages. Seems to have happened whenever TT migrated another batch of forums to their system. They've pretty much sorted out the ad-free payment thing - again, there was the need to accomodate multiple board systems for ads and payments, come up with something uniform and figure out how to transfer all the different types of payment balances. I think we're good to go ad-free for quite some time with our transferred balance from Yuku, if I allow ads for guests but not registered members.
I encountered that new login page recently.
Like you, I checked out the "upgrade to Tapatalk" option, which I assumed would maybe involve a new password and new users agreement or something.
But it is really just creating a new account and scrapping your old one. They should call it the "abandon your old login" option.
There can be no spaces in user names (what is this, 1992?). Bumma.
I hope we get a fair amount of warning before they disable our legacy logins.
