Lots of things but the tree going up in Dock Square is probably number one for me.

I decided I would not put John Lennon's Happy Christmas video up here. The song by itself is very bittersweet. The video is devastating.

I absolutely love Christmas Wrapping----but I had never seen that rather odd video before. I also love Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas" as well. For more traditional songs, "Silver bells" was my father's favorite and I always think of him when I hear it. And "Have yourself a Merry Christmas" always makes me sigh.

For one of the moments that tugs at my heart ... hanging the ornaments on the tree (the many my kids made when they were little, special ones given to me by loved ones who have passed).

Christmas Eve.  I'm the anti-consumer all year long - I've long been done with stuff.  Love my real tree, love my ornaments which are a family history unto themselves.  I put a tree up late and leave it up until at least until little Christmas.  My favorite week of the year is the week between Christmas and New Year's.

I hear about a fatal trampling at the entrance of a big box store on Black Friday.

BFix - Europe has the Running of the Bulls and that weird thing where they throw tomatoes at one another. America has Brawl-Mart.

Eggnog by the fire. Grandchildren raising Hell all around. A bit of snow, a friendly neighbor, people happy on the street. A call to an old friend once a year,
Christmas cookies, a warm bed, presents I can eat and the woodpile and boats all wrapped.

There is also a lot of nostalgia in those things that are, or are becoming, traditions.
