I'm so not ready for this, but here it is - from Joe Ciolino:

The parade this year is dedicated to Rudy Macchi, a long time volunteer in Gloucester representing Santa for many years. Rudy loved Christmas and visited children throughout the city including the Shriners Hospital in Boston placing Christmas smiles on faces of the young and old. Thank you Rudy for your years of service to the Gloucester Christmas Parade.

The annual Gloucester Christmas Parade, a Gloucester tradition for 35 years, will take place on Sunday, November 27 th at 3:00 PM. Volunteers will start lining up for the parade participants at the State Fish Pier on Parker Street at 2:00 PM and will guide them through downtown Gloucester and on to Kent Circle for the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony. The parade is also the official welcoming of Santa Claus to Gloucester for the Christmas season.

At Kent Circle, children will have the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap – a great photo opportunity for parents. Free popcorn and hot chocolate will be served. Santa has predicted a snow shower during the tree lighting ceremony.

As in the past – while folks are at Kent Circle, they are invited to sign holiday cards that will be sent to our troops overseas.  Donations will also be accepted to pay for postage.

If you are interested in participating in the parade with a Christmas float, team of walkers or musical group, contact 978-281- 1227 or weather.vane@verizon.net. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation, please send it in care of the Gloucester Fund, 153 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930. Please note on memo line “Santa Claus Parade”.

The parade will feature Letter to Santa pickup by USPS. Children can bring a letter to Santa and have post office personel pick it up during the parade.

Toy for Tots….bring an unwrapped toy to the parade; look for the yellow school bus.

The Docksiders sponsored by the Institution for Savings Bank, The O’Maley School Band sponsored by the Gloucester Rotary Club in memory of Rudy Macchi.

The Boston Fireman’s Band

Grand Marshall this year are the children and grandchildren of Rudy Macchi.

The Roaming Railroad, Mrs. Santa, Santa on a Gloucester Ladder truck and more.

Trophies will be awarded for the best float or organization displays in the parade

I think I just saw the tree at Kent Circle. Still resting on its side.

Gee whiz....where are the political correctness enthusiasts demanding that it be called a Holiday Parade?

I assume the tree came from Shelburne NS.

Sometimes the Honorable Mayor of Shelburne attends the tree lighting.

The Shelburne assumption is correct.
I happened upon the tree person at George's :)

I was just going to say that someone, somewhere will be outraged at this event.

The crew arrived back in Gloucester with the tree, donated by the residents of Shelburne, NS, late Tuesday afternoon.  The plan is to hoist and set it this afternoon around 2:00 and string the lights tomorrow.

Thanks Cathy and ... THANKS TO THE U.S. and CANADIAN CREWZ.

I love it in NS/PEI. That would be a good thread! The owner of Essex River Dogs lives in the attached house and it was built by a PEI guy about 50 years ago. Smaller houses to us seem small but are normal sized to Canadians. Much cheaper to heat too.

Thanks US/NS Tree Crews!

I think this was today because I accidentally wound up in the middle of the Santa parade on my way back from a meeting downtown.   Ha ha ha.  It was fun!

The Shelburne gift tree looks great lighted-up and stands perfect.

BRILLIANT IDEA to have the LOBSTER TRAP TREE with access so you can walk inside the tree and see the lights as well!

Looks like winter womderland begins at 3AM and snow ends around noon BUT changes to rain.

Standing perfect in what way? I think it has a lean to it.The Lobster Trap Tree is awesome and with the laser lights inside one might think they are "tripping out"!

23rd tree lighting in the books.

Pretty cool that one of my kids did some live streaming so that the folks in Shelburne, N.S. could watch the lighting live.
